Cold Water Extraction Double Filter

SWIM is doing is first CWE atm and has been reading all the threads about it and was wondering if it would be worth putting another coffee filter under the top one so that the stuff that comes out of the first filter is then filtered again making it purer?

also, he is about to go to bed so it will have to stop half way through for about 8 hours, would the CWE benifit from being in the fridge (~3c) over night or filtering for longer?

Swit always uses 2 filters. He does so because he likes to carefully squeeze all the remaining goodness out of the stuff that gets caught in the filter and having 2 filters helps prevent tearing. He sometimes leaves it O/N in the fridge too.

at what point does SWIT leave it over night? after desolving?

would filtering it with 2 filters, in the fridge, over night, give a good result?
SWIM is a little worried that if left too long might the bad stuff start to find its way through the filters into the end product? SWIMs fridge thermometer reads about 3c (cheapo 99p thing)

1)Yep: Make sure SWIY dissolves it nicely, sticks it in the fridge & cools it to approx 3 degress celsius.
SWIM never leaves his overnight, as his fridge is a bit of a beast, and usually takes around 2 hours to cool down. Anything goes just as long as SWIY is confident the Para/Acet has cooled enough to precipitate out of the solution!

2)Yep: Doubling up with filtration can only lead to better removal of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen.
Remember: Codeine will not get blocked by the filter, provided it's been dissolved properly and SWIY has enough water, so filter it as many times as is required to ease SWIY's mind.

3)It's possible, but unlikely: Remember, SWIY cools the shit in order to make sure as little paracetamol as possible is in solution. Naturally, if the solution takes a ridiculously long time to filter, then there's a chance that the para will become warm enough to re-dissolve into the solution and pass through.
BUT... This is highly unlikely. Nevertheless, if SWIY is that paranoid then let it filter in the fridge

It would be possible if the solution was somehow warm or the filtration method was too careless. Never be overly complacent when it comes to Paracetamol.

Again, SWIY should never get complacent or careless. I'm sure SWIY is not careless, but it's just a reminder.

3) Not possible. Swiys end product should have no visible solids in it whatsoever. Perhaps a little cloudy, but no solids. Don't forget, the body can safely handle about 30mg/kg of paracetamol and there's no way that much is getting through the filter without it being visible to the naked eye.

The first few times Swim did it, he fretted for a week about the possibility of having had poisoned himself. Now, he doesn't even entertain the possibility.

SWIM is very embarrased, he did the extraction fine apart from he forgot to wet the filters! *blush*

SWIM crushed all the pills to a powder as fine as flour, then put them in ~50-60ml of room temp water then left it in the fridge for a couple hours.. the solution had a thick sludge at the bottom and about half a centre meter of nearly clear water which he is guessing is the bit which would have the most codeine? (please confirm) well unfortunately most of that got absorbed by the filter is there anyway to get it out and maybe save some of it? he could probs take the inner filter out so that the outer filter is just codeine and water and then squeezy it maybe? was just a first go with 16 nurofen plus (12.8mg codeine per pill)

should swim just drink the filtered liquid? maybe mix it with some apple juice to mask the taste

Swit did that once too. If Swit was Swiy, he would go to the pharmacy buy some better pills and try again...

I recommend SWIY does not squeeze any filters. He/she is better off accepting failure and making a mental note to wet them next time!

Incidentally, SWIM made the exact same mistake a few times!

Swim squeezes filters all the time. He squeezes the living shit of them! He squeezes until his hands hurt. Squeeze squeeze squeeze sqeeeeeeeeeze! There sure is lots o'goodness waiting to be squeezed out!

Again, I wouldn't recommend this if you have an uber-huge pile of white powder resting on SWIY's filter, as it could easily end up back in SWIY's Codeine end product.

Swim usually filters the solution twice, he will squeeze every last drop out of the first filtration (usually makes the solution cloudy again), than he will reaplce both filters, and filter it again. Swim does not squeeze the filter much the second time as by this time usually most of the codeine will already have gone through, and he wants as little APAP as possible. Using this method Swim always gets a clear liquid which tastes like codeine should.. which is definitley a hell of a lot better than the taste of aspirin or whatever the other product is.

My dalek uses two pre-lightly wet coffee filters (grade 3 he believes). And places them into his glass then he places 1 piece of bounty paper towel or its equivilant ontop of the two filters and pours his solution in.

On your first pass you dont have to worry about accuracy too much. So you can squeeze the filters lightly to get that last bit out. Then if your desperate squeeze the shit out of the filther into ANOTHER glass and refreeze that and repeat. HOWEVER.

With that first glass my dalek mentioned you dont have to pay attention to accuracy so now you have to repeat the whole thing again bounty paper onto of 2 pre wet coffee filters. You could lightly squeeze out the last drops if your in a hurry but at this point accuracy is most important you want all ACAP out.

And again you can squeeze the shit outta that 2nd filter into your extra glass and repeat. Personally My dalek does not.
