Question Heavy SSRI Use and MDMA

Swim's parents thought he wasn't very happy as a child. Swim took moderately heavy doses of SSRI's and various other anti-depressents (including Prozac, Zoloft, Remeron, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Abilify) all the way from 4th to 10th grade. Swim took Effexor the longest, from 7th to 10th grade at a high dose (150-200 mg) and also took Remeron off and on during that time. Swim also used various medications to treat ADD (Ritalin, Adderall, Adderall XR, Focalin, Strattera) and still today takes adderall on occasion and strattera on a regular basis (starting also at 7th grade).

Swim has never noticed any actual difference from taking any of the anti-depressents besides side effects (appetite increase, intense drowsiness) and really only took them to make swim's parents happy. Swim is now in 12th grade and has been off anti-depressents for nearly two years.

A couple months ago Swim swallowed an MDMA tablet at 11 PM. Two of Swim's friends also took the same amount of the same pill and felt some effect, although not much. Swim felt no effect. Swim took another higher quality different kind of MDMA tablet at 2 AM, the same tablet that another one of Swim's friends took four hours prior and felt the full effect. Swim snorted half the tablet and chewed up and swallowed the other half. Swim felt no effect the entire night besides the effect of the meth the pills were cut with.

My question is, is it possible that Swim has an extremely high tolerance or immunity to MDMA due to the heavy use of anti-depressants as a child?

Re: Heavy SSRI Use and MDMA

Not sure if this will be much help, but it's SWIM's 5 cents.

SWIM has personally experimented with MDMA while in the middle of a full-blown fluoxetine cycle. Result? SWIM watched SWIM's friends roll their ass off while SWIM didn't feel anything. To make matters worse, the next time SWIM thought - perhaps it IS possible to roll while on fluoxetine, but you just have to take more. Wrong answer. The evening almost turned into a nightmare. Ending with some strange quasi-panic-attack-deathly-feeling.

Now, in your case the antidepressent medication use was years ago. Therefore, the above probably doesn't apply. SWIM wishes SWIM could be more helpful, but that's SWIM's experience with combining those two. Hope you can put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure it out. Also, there is a small percentage of the poplulation who can't roll due to ... and SWIM's no expert here... something about lacking a particular liver enzyme that is responsible for breaking down the MDMA. I'm sure someone else reading this will clarify.

Doh! SWIM just remembered: SWIM is pretty sure that the liver enzyme scenerio doesn't apply to you because it's the same liver enzyme that breaks down fluoxetine (although not positive).

Re: Heavy SSRI Use and MDMA

SWIM thinks that the liver enzyme thing was a postulated reason behind MDMA hypersensivity. The thinking was that you had lower amounts of CYP2D6, and didn't metabolize it properly. But studies have shown that this isn't the reason behind some being hypersensitive to MDMA.

The effect from the rolls that SWIR's friends had could've been entirely psychological.

And there very well may have not been any MDMA or related compounds, you really have no idea whats in your rolls.

SWIM was on fluxeotine for a little bit, and SWIM has also happily rolled since being off of it.

The half-life of fluxeotine is *very* long, a few weeks or something, but you said that you took it years ago, so that shouldn't be an issue.
