Alright swim recently tried salvia and liked it. A lot. which swim thinks is both a good thing and a bad thing.
The first time swim was with some friends outside at night did not really see anything (some geometric patterns, the stars were moving and whatnot) but had an overall elevated mood, laughed a lot, etc. Swim took it very slow because she did not want to bug out. (One of swim's friends who was there bugged out for a little bit; that kind of freaked swim out at first) A sitter was there, so she took him on a walk to help him clear his head. The second time swim was in her room. Again, no hallucinations really except for patterns and shapes and kind of distorted space. Swim's room felt like it was tilted (like a boat or something) and the space seemed larger. Also, swim felt very bad for her clothes because her room was a mess and she felt her clothes were unhappy. Laughter and euphoria persisted for a few minutes. The third time swim was in a car with her friend, who was smoking weed but not salvia. At first swim noticed tree branches moving in a weird sequence, but it was dark out and a little scary so swim focused on the interior of the car. Swim could not distinguish body from car seat; this doesn't really make sense but swim and seat were a kind of community working towards some common goal. At some point swim realized swim could not see her body and tried to look for it (even though swim was looking right down at her legs) and this continued until the effects subsided and swim could see her body again. Again, there was lots of laughing and feeling happy. The first time was this saturday, the second monday, and the third tuesday. Swim would like to push it further but does not want to have a bad experience or do any permanent damage; any suggestions? Also, swim has a history of schizophrenia and mental illness in the family, so this is another concern. Currently two people (who swim knows of) in swim's family have schizophrenia; swim's mother's aunt and swim's mother's cousin. Swim's therapist said swim should wait until she does some research on it before swim does it again. What worries swim most is that swim likes it a lot and sees it could very possibly become a regular habit, especially since the experience is so short and swim does not feel burnt out afterwards like when smoking weed. Although swim has read about many bad experiences, she has yet to experience any negative or overwhelming effects. What are your guys' thoughts on the permanent effects, if there are any? Or getting hooked on it? Swim's therapist said while it isn't addictive she was counseling someone who said him and his group of friends got very hooked on it. Swim has also read many articles that suggest it could promote schizophrenia but there is little actual evidence to support this. The legality of it has also given swim a false sense of security to some extent, which is also a problem. Swim has only tried weed, kratom and blue lotus btw. |

Re: first-time use and concerns
Well with a history of mental illness in swiy's family she should thread carefully around psychoactive substances, little is known about salvinorin A effects in general and most(not all) of what is known comes from anecdotal evidence as opposed to real research.
It seems clear enough though that, from a health point of view, the only main risk (not counting the potential to bring out an underlying mental health issue) is associated with the fact that smoking anything isn't healthy! DON'T ever let legality fool you, its not such a big issue with salvia (if one respects the plant), but many other legal substances can be as, if not more, harmful than many illegal substances. As far as addictiveness goes, salvia isn't physically addictive, as swiy has said, BUT anything can be mentally addictive to someone who's personality is so inclined. It could be that swiy is just going through a phase of using the plant, and she will probably slow down her usage soon, but swiy should keep an eye on it! |

Re: first-time use and concerns
As far as pushing it further..has SWIY tried salvia with eyes closed? SWIM has had several experiences similar to SWIY's, but has never had a "breakthrough". SWIM once tried a dose a bit lower than he normally does, only this time with his eyes closed while laying down. This really intensified the experience for SWIM and SWIM's friends tell him what he felt was much like what they felt when they had made their first breakthrough. SWIM had forgot he was on salvia when he did this and he got pretty scared at the time, but found that opening his eyes would bring him back to reality and calm him down. I don't know if this is the same for everyone, but perhaps SWIY could try salvia with eyes closed and see what it does for you, and if it is too intense, or scares you or anything, then SWIY could just open their eyes.

Re: first-time use and concerns
Thats usually all SWIM gets with eyes closed too, but perhaps it was the fact that he felt comfortable and undistracted(no sitter) while doing it in his room.
SWIM smoked the salvia, put his pipe in his ash tray, layed down and closed his eyes. At first SWIM felt a strange sensation, sort of like the was standing; he felt something underneath his head. Next, SWIM sort of blacked out or something, he cannot remember exactly what happened next. Next thing SWIM remembers is confusion, he seemed to "wake up" and did not remember what he had done or where he was. The strange sensation from before was still there, only much more intense; the space around him seemed like it was trembling. What SWIM saw was a very large silver/purplish wall, filled with many many doors, that took up his entire field of vision, making it seem like he was viewing it from a very far distance. At this point, he remembered he had used salvia and tried to get back to his body; the notion that he had to find the right door(from the wall) to get back to his body came into his mind, and he started looking. While he was looking, SWIM became aware that someone/something was there watching him, and had the intention to bring him somewhere. This creature gave off a strange sensation of apathy; SWIM thought that it was going to take him wherever it wanted, regardless of what SWIM thought. This made SWIM uneasy, and he started to think: "What will my parents do when they find me without my mind?", so he kept on searching for that door. When SWIM found it, he was able to open his eyes, and that comforted him because he no longer felt that apathetic presence. Thats pretty much it; after that I kept on seeing those doors vaguely, but they had lost any meaning they had before. I sobered up minute or two later. Don't know if thats what you were asking for, hope that helps! Sorry for the length btw, I tried to make it as short as possible. |

Re: first-time use and concerns
Thanks, that sounds really interesting. Swim hasn't had anything close to that. Does swiy know approximately how much swiy smoked / what potency? Also, were swiy's eyes open or closed when swiy saw the large wall with many doors?

Re: first-time use and concerns
SWIM smoked about 3 pinches of 5x(I know thats not a very good measurement, but I didn't use a scale or anything). SWIM's eyes were closed when he saw the wall with many doors.
