Ron Paul clips on the War on Drugs

A new entry has been added to Drugs Archive

Description:

3 mins

Ron Paul took an opportunity during the PBS Republican Presidential Debates, moderated by Tavis Smiley, to call for end to the Drug War.

"Prohibition didn't work and prohibition on drugs hasn't worked either."

Ron Paul cited the unfair disparity in the percentage of blacks imprisoned over drug offenses in proportion with the relative percentage of black drug users, giving example to the system's racial bias.

Paul also noted the money wasted on the so-called 'War on Drugs' since the 70s when it's clear that drug use and prison capacity has only swelled in wake of the profit driven motives of the "war."

Re: Ron Paul on youtube about legalizing drugs

Wow I like this guy and he is a Republican too! wow it's finally about time someone in my party is thinking like a young person. We definitely need to change our policies on drugs, the war on drugs is a joke and will never work as it is laid out. I have a strong desire to see Ron Paul lead this country , I wonder what his foreign policy would look like. Thank you for this thread.

Ron Paul Does Not Dance Around Issues - The Ron Paul Campaign

No more parties, no more interest groups and no more Americans with a “hyphen”. All Americans have America in common and thusly we need to have a single answer to any question that serves all Americans and never divides us.

In the Wake of the Democratic Pander festival for hispanics, and I am sure many pandering moves by Republicans as well, we now present a display of cutting through the division with one America answers.

Ron Paul does not dance around the issues of special interest groups or pander like we saw on Univision by the Democrats. See how he gives the one answer we all know in our hearts is the truth.

We must all agree that no question should be answered “for a group” and all answers should serve all Americans equally.

Hyphens only divide and weaken America, Ron Paul never answers a question for a race or group but responds to every answer with a single solution that ignores race and helps all Americans it would reach.

This is truly the only video you ever need to see of Ron Paul to see everything worth loving about this candidate for president.

I see no pander, no need to impress only a need to serve his country and nobody else.’

I have long been a fan of Ron Paul, but please take the time to watch this coverage and see how he alone gives the answers that are to seek truth and not to pander.

This is the last video you will ever need to watch before choosing who to support.

“I like to think that if we have a freer society it will take care of blacks and white sand everyone equally.”

“I think if you’re going to have prosperity it’s going to benefit everybody.”

“The free society is the only society that can provide goods and services and provide the fairest distribution of it.”

“I have a bill in that would help everybody, black or white or whatever. They would not have to pay taxes or payroll”

“I would not sign a bill like you describe because it would be construed as amnesty and I will not sign amnesty. “

“I see our immigration as a problem of our welfare state, the welfare state that encourages Americans not to work and rewards illegal immigrants that comes here. But the welfare that we offer the people that come they get free welfare free medication, they bankrupt our hospitals….”

“You can’t solve this problem till you get rid of the welfare state because in a healthy economy immigrants can’t hurt us….they have been scapegoat because of the weak economy.”

“We need to repeal the whole war on drugs it isn’t working.”

This is why Ron Paul has excited alot of people, and why I have gone from a supporter to a true fan in awe of his ability to serve only the constitution. This desire to only serve one America is why he has lobbyists, corporations and special interests scared to death of losing their influence on a Washington that has long been “for sale”.

CNN and Glenn Beck: Ron Paul Supporters are Not Terrorists
Daily Paul
Thursday, November 15, 2007

Dear Sirs,

CNN and Glenn Beck recently aired an inflammatory and misleading piece comparing Ron Paul supporters to terrorists. Mr. Beck’s irresponsible association has already led to impassioned responses from the large, peaceful and growing Ron Paul community, including a call to boycott CNN’s sponsors, and an eloquent response from a former US Marine.

I was heartened by the Marine’s response. I fully support and encourage the boycott efforts. With this letter, I am also urging everyone within the Ron Paul community to write directly to CNN, requesting that your network and Glenn Beck issue a retraction, clarification and an apologyto Ron Paul and the peaceful Ron Paul community for your wrongful and damaging characterization.

On November 5th, nearly 40,000 hard working Americans donated an average of $98 to Ron Paul’s campaign for president, resulting in one of the biggest one-day online political fundraising events ever. We did it because we are tired of mainstream networks such as yours ignoring us. We did it with the intention of making a news splash so large that you could no longer pretend we do not exist. Our efforts succeeded beyond our wildest expectations, but Mr. Beck’s recent piece has revealed your true colors.

You did something shameful. You chose to portray 40,000 upstanding Americans as terrorists. I find it tragically ironic that Glenn Beck chose a segment called, “A Nation Divided” to compare the peaceful actions of fellow American citizens to terrorists. Mr. Beck’s actions only contribute to the division in this country. Calling this large group of peaceful Americans terrorists is an absolute disgrace, especially in a post-911 America when the Military Commissions Act allows the president, at his sole discretion, to name any American an “enemy combatant.” Your network and Glenn Beck may think it is funny to play fast and loose with this kind of language, but I take this very, very seriously. Nothing could be more divisive than to call fellow law-abiding Americans “terrorists.” Is this how far your network has sunk in its desperate grab for ratings? Shame on you. Shame on you and your editors, for selling out the foundations of our country so readily and so cheaply.

In his piece Mr. Beck erroneously stated that Dr. Paul’s November 5th fundraising was done “to commemorate Guy Fawkes.” What is your source for this statement? This statement is factually incorrect, and I hereby request that you produce your source, or retract it. With this single incorrect fact, Beck goes on to spin an entire piece that only amplifies and distorts his disinformation. Later in the piece, CNN’s guest, David Horowitz, speaking of Ron Paul, says: “I think it is very significant that he chose Guy Fawkes as an image.” This so clearly misinformed that it would be laughable if not for its seriousness. Is it your network's standing policy to allow such woefully misinformed guests on all of your “news” shows? How can you expect informed citizens to believe any of your future program guests if you allow such egregious errors go unchecked and uncorrected? Ron Paul and his official campaign had nothing to do with the organization of this day, so it is impossible that Ron Paul was the one to “choose Guy Fawkes as an image.” Please do not assume that all Americans are complete idiots, nor that we will stand by passively as you broadcast such lies.

Your poorly researched, factually incorrect, sensationalist opinion is exactly what is dividing America and driving citizens from networks such as yours to the unimpeachable honesty and integrity exemplified by Dr. Ron Paul and his peaceful campaign for president. I hereby request that you issue a retraction, clarification and apology to Dr. Paul and his grassroots supporters. Without it, your network will continue its accelerating slide towards the realm of complete irrelevance in the minds of informed Americans.

Sincerely,
Michael Nystrom

Readers, please contact CNN directly using this form (link below)for the Glenn Beck show. Be polite, but firmly ask for an apology, clarification and a retraction. This is too serious to let stand. I will have more on why this is so serious in the next few days. Thank you all for your support.

There is nothing that is "conservative" about the war on drugs. Traditionally conservatives have always been highly skeptical about the ability of the state or any other institution to remake man or change his nature. Humans have been using and making intoxicants since before they were farming, there's not much fundamental about human nature then the desire to get high.

Ron Paul is always characterize as a "radical republican," but if anything I think that maniac Rudy Guliani is far more radical. What do you think Edmond Burke would have said about an endless global imperium?

I would have to agree you, a conservative ideology is one of smaller government , self reliant, individual responsibility, adherence to the Constitution, Freedom from a suppressing government.

I dont want the Government looking inside my home and telling me I cant have a toke or hit. we are smart enough to decide on our own how to enjoy a bit of a intoxicant , where is the freedom?

As long as our Constitution is upheld , and not changed or breached, I would like to see some reform to laws on using and acquiring substances that are currently unlawful.

supporting the south american drug families who supply cocaine , has to stop.
and the only way it will end , is when our money is spent on drugs that are available from a domestic source... Period.
