promethazine HCL withdrawal

Hi guys hope im ok putting this in the right section but cant see any antihistimine section .. been a while since I posted...

anyways mods please move and accept my appologies if needed ...

its regarding promethazine HCL .. swim has been taking now for many weeks.. mild insomniac.. anyways tolerance obviously built up swim was at a stage of taking triple doses.. Swim noticed that during his day he was becoming very clumsy (almost ot ran over by a car) so decided to stop. second night now without and serious insomnia which suppose is normal ..
my question(s) is :
how long before swim can get back to his normal self like hes never taken them and back to his old mild insomnia

and could swim go onto diphenhydramine HCL... does tolerence to promethazine mean tollerence to dip. the effects do feel different

not really very good info on web of comin off them ..
thanks guys..much appreciated

Re: promethazine HCL withdrawel

Promethazine is a reasonably long acting substance but it should have left SWIY's system in a few days(2-3 days) Diphenhydramine and promethazine have the same method of action that causes sleepyness and drowsiness

Re: promethazine HCL withdrawel

Tolerance isn't the right word for it, antihistamines just loose their hypnotic effects after a few days of use, but one doesn't grow a large tolerance. Sleepyness is just a side effect of the older antihistamines, and that's why they are also used as sleep aids. But after using them for several consecutive days the side effects disappear, that's why they don't work anymore after a few days of use. Try to keep several days between using and they will probaply be effective again.

Re: promethazine HCL withdrawal

Please bear in mind that promethazine is not an antihistamine, but is a phenothiazine derivative (and therefore an ANTIPSYCHOTIC, with all of the associated side effects).
