unsuccessful salvia Divinorum trip, (help)

well swim bought 20x salvia 1 gram. smoked with a buddy, swiwe ended up smoking it all! so about .5 grams each. Feel a little good and sedated, but NOTHING. swim cant figure out what went wrong! swim lives in california. Perhaps it was shitty salvia, but i doubt it. what could of went wrong?

also, swim used a bic lighter because swims tourch lighter was messed-up.

A torch lighter shouldn't be necessary with most extracts. This requires more information. What was SWIY's smoking technique, and over what time period was the .5g consumed? Ideally the full dose has to be taken in within a two minute period. I'd say a good dose is around the 50mg mark, 1/20th of a gram. When it is smoked, a huge hit needs to be taken, and held in for ideally 30+ seconds. This should then be repeated 2 or 3 times. After that, if desired results aren't achieved, it's probably best to stop, since it's being metabolised and Salvia is just being wasted. SWIM finds this easier if he takes a huge breath of air, empties out his lungs, then fills them with Sally-smoke, holds it for as long as he can, then takes a couple of breaths of fresh air and repeats.

well, swim shared a pipe with his buddy so maybe this delayed the time too much, it was over a 15minute period. Swim tried to hold it as long as possible like 35-45 seconds.

Next time swim won't share a pipe with salvia.

oh, a question: when lighting up the salvia, does a flame have to be applied constantly, and kept real hot?

...if so this could be another problem.

Yeah, damn. That's something I forgot to mention. It should be burned for the entire duration of the inhalation.

Swim's no expert, but believes the heat is indeed an issue. As far as she knows, salvia needs to get more hot than weed does in order for it to be most effective. A bong can also be very effective for salvia.

It often seems to swim like the correct preparation for smoking salvia is much lengthier than the actual salvia experience. Hardly seems fair.

I've found that the torch lighter makes all the difference. You can even use one of those long lighters designed for grills... just make sure you are filtering the smoke through water or the smoke will be really painful. With a BIC lighter it is hit or miss for me and usually requires 3 hits to even begin to trip. Using the torch, halfway through inhaling my first hit I'm in a different world.
