Question About Lawsuit Over Oxycontin

I recently caught a news clip after the lawsuit where the makers of Oxycontin were to be held liable for deaths caused by this particular drug. There was a woman whose son died from an OC overdose and also Dr. Drew was on there.
Dr. Drew was asked why this particular pill was such a problem and he reminded them that it was oxycodone, the same chemical as Brand name Percocet, just in higher doses. No difference in chemical makeup. The woman whose son died got offended that Dr. Drew said this. Saying that they were different and that Percocet was acceptable.
Dr Drew went on to tell her they were the same thing and her response was "Tell that to all the parents of children who are addicted to Oxycontin and/or have died from its use."
Now my question is: Do people really not realize that OxyContin, Oxycodone, Percocet, Percodan and the many other names it goes by are all the same chemical? If they want to ban Oxycontin then logic would mean you would want oxycodone banned. Sometimes the general publics drug knowledge, or lack thereof, irritates me.Or perhaps I just know too much about opiates and Im nitpicking...

No, the sheeple don't know the difference, and don't care either. Don't try to make life complex for them, they will get angry. It's the same mentality which produced the "strawberry quik meth" epidemic my dear old mother was so worried about a few months back.

Also, please title threads in a manner which conveys the content of the post. Something like, for one example, "Do people realize that Oxycontin and Percocet are the same drug?" would be much more effective for people interested in this topic, and helpful for future users of the search engine.

Re: Question???

The thing that these kid's parents don't realise is that Oxycontin wasn't around their kids would've died from a heroin OD instead. Why is it that people need to find a scapegoat for everything bad that happens to them???
