Question Codeine and exercise...Is it safe?

So I have a friend who likes to take around 350mg of codeine and then after about an hour works out hard (like a pulse of 150ish for maybe about 45 mins). Anyways he was wondering if this is safe or should he change his habits?

Re: Codeine and exercise...Is it safe?

Why on earth would he do that? The last thing Swim likes doing on opiates is working out.

Re: Codeine and exercise...Is it safe?

SWIM doesn't think it is a good idea to take any analgetic before exercise. By doing so you decrease the sensitivity to pain which could be an important indicator for injury.

  Thanks!

  Informative (altho not much so) but mainly straight to the point and sensible. Good first post.

Re: Codeine and exercise...Is it safe?

Not only is anabolen right-on, it's well-known that beta-endorphin decreases the catecholamine response to exercise -- so opioids, similarly, could interfere with many of the benefits of exercising in the first place. I would not do them together.

Re: Codeine and exercise...Is it safe?

Opiate = Analgesic/Depressant.
Exercise = Stimulation.

Exercise + Depressant = Possibility of over-exhaustion without being totally aware of it. Also as anabolen quite rightly pointed out, SWIY may for instance pull a muscle or similar, and there is a small chance SWIY might not notice it, and do more damage.
