ac/dc fans anyone?

No, not the band! Swim needs some advice on electricity, he is trying to build a bong with a toaster heating coil wrapped around the inside of the bowl to replace a lighter, this would save swim hours of looking for that damn lighter and probably be a little healthier.

He is able to flick on the switch and have a 1 foot piece of wire heat up but when he bundles it into the bowl it just shorts out

So swims question is, could this be made properly without having to use a transformer or any other gadget? if so, how would swim have to go about this?
