Mixing Alchohol and Codeine?

swim just got a buzz off alcohol and is wondering if it would be bad for swim to take 3 x 30mg tablets for recreational purposes. I was just wondering how serious the bottle is when it says dont take with alcohol...

Re: Mixing Alchohol and Codeine?

the last time swim took 90 mg codeine after having a few beers, he had a fantastic time followed by a nauseous time. swim finds that it depends on the situation. perhaps swiy should try spacing the dose to see how their stomach feels?

Re: Mixing Alchohol and Codeine?

Though SWIM is considering a relatively low dose, both codeine and alcohol act as central nervous system depressants (though alcohol, paradoxically, acts a stimulant in the beginning). This means they can potentiate each other - two become four, etc.

Aside from that, the use of acetaminophen with alcohol is a bad idea and should be avoided when possible. It can damage such structures as the liver and kidneys. On another note, many people find alcohol kills the euphoric effects of narcotics.

Best advice? Use separately.

SWIM agrees. Save the beer for the next day or the codeine for the next day

Re: Mixing Alchohol and Codeine?

Swit also agrees. He's tried drinking a beer, wine or whiskey when he's coming up or peaking on moderate doses of codeine and find that the alcohol kills it. Bye Bye euphoria! Problem is that codeine is relatively subtle and alcohol isn't at all.

Re: Mixing Alchohol and Codeine?

oh well you have to remember with all this liver magic swim has got going there..
ethanol would have to come up some time...for what it's worth swim dosen't like ethanol with his coddyjuice...i hope i be usin "swim" correctly...sorry in case I am not...

"

20. Sljivovica (100 proof plum brandy) - Of the alcoholic beverages, this was the best to mix with opiates, although no more than about > of an ounce should be used by those with no tolerance, and probably not that much more for others. It had an across-the-board impact on codeine but tended to harshen hydrocodone and oxycodone buzzes. In matters other than flavour and aesthetics, vodka is interchangeable with this beverage.
21. Gin - The same 15-20 ml pure-alcohol equivalent limit applies for this, and it's negative effects on the hydrocodone and oxycodone buzzes seemed to be somewhat greater than vodka, Sljivovica, and pure reagent-grade ethanol (thus it can be assumed Everclear) 22. White Wine: The co-generics present in wine make it an all or nothing thing as far as how well it mixes with opiates. Red wine will generally be worse. For a lot of people "

etc if SWIM want's more it's right here http://opioids.com/opiates/index.html . All sorta shifty tricks

I used to quote from that site, SanPerro.

I would just like to point out that a lot of the info on that page is very old, very misleading and (sometimes) just plain unproven crap.

Please exercise caution when using that page for Opiate/Opioid information. I'd say you're better off referring to the info given by senior DF members and moderators.

So if you see SWIY about, tell him/her to be careful.

That aside:

I agree with Nagognog2 and others who say that Alcohol and Codeine, much like most of life's finer things, should be enjoyed separately.

SWIM tells me that for him, Alcohol did not kill the euphoric effect of the Codeine (we're talking 50ml of Whisky @ 40% ABV combined with 420mg Codeine, apparently) but he also asked me to point out to SWIY that he has a very high Codeine tolerance, and (worryingly) is beginning to drink regularly, and so this combination will almost surely knock a codeine/alcohol newbie out for the count.

SWIM seems a little intoxicated at the moment (he appears to be typing at the rate of about 3 words per cigarette) and he would like to apologise if this advice does not flow smoothly or make any sense at all, and he promises me he will edit it in the morning.

Also...

Yes you are, my friend! The general idea is SWIM is NOT you and SWIY is NOT the person you're talking to.

E.G. "I think you are learning fast, SanPerro" would be "SWIM (someone who isn't me) thinks SWIY (someone who isnt you) is learning fast, SanPerro!"

Hope that silly example helped at all.
