GBL in Canada
Swim wants to know whether GBL can be imported into Canada from UK. Even after Swim read through government websites, it still remains unclear whether or not the *big* package will get confiscated at the canadian border

15 December 2005 Publication of the Regulations Amending the Precursor Control Regulations (PCR) and the Order Amending Schedule VI to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) The following announcement is from Health Canada. This is to advise you that the Regulations Amending the Precursor Control Regulations and the Order Amending Schedule VI to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on December 14, 2005. The amendments to this new regulatory framework have been identified by Health Canada and stakeholders as issues which can only be effectively resolved through amendment of the Regulations. These amendments strengthen the regulatory framework, for example, add a requirement for a licence to possess a precursor for the purpose of producing a controlled substance, such as methamphetamine; minimize regulatory burden and any negative impact on the legitimate trade of precursors, for example, exempt certain activities such as import, export and provision/sale of preparations containing Class A precursors which have been deemed to be of little risk of diversion for illicit use; and clarify and streamline the requirements for certain provisions. The PCR amendments and the changes to item 17 of Schedule VI to the CDSA came into force on the day they were registered (November 21, 2005). Other amendments add six substances to the CDSA and the PCR: gamma butyrolactone (GBL), 1,4 butanediol (BDO), red phosphorus, white phosphorus, hypophosphorous acid, and hydriodic acid, due to their extensive use in the illicit manufacture of the controlled drugs methamphetamine and gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). The addition of the six substances to Schedule VI to the CDSA and the PCR will come into force on January 31, 2006. These and other amendments to the PCR are set out in the Regulations, and explained in the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement (RIAS). The Regulations and RIAS are available on the Canada Gazette web site at: http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2005/20051214/pdf/g2-13925.pdf http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2005/20051214/html/index-e.html So, unless SWIY has a license to import then he may get into trouble if his package gets looked at on its way across the border. |

Re: GBL in Canada
I know a Zebra that has imported GBL from overseas a few times and the Zebra lives in the communist state of the USA and has never had any problem. The Zebra cannot gaurantee no confiscation but doesn't think it will happen. When your disire for the GBL overcomes your fear of confiscation youll order. If that doesn't happen then you really didn't want it bad enough.

Re: GBL in Canada
My Rottweiler told me its probably safer to convert GABA to GBL. He thinks ordering a product containing GBL into Canada would be too risky. But then again what does he know, hes just a stupid dog.

Re: GBL in Canada
Schedule VI ?
Isn't that a lame sort of restriction that only prevent things to be sold to "private individuals" or "under 21" ? |

Re: GBL in Canada
From Wikipedia: Canada: GBL is a Controlled Substance under Schedule VI of the "Controlled Drugs and Substances Act" in Canada. Schedule VI of the "Controlled Drugs and Substances Act" requires vendors to collect information regarding purchases of GBL. It is not illegal for an individual to possess GBL in Canada.
Is this bullshit or what? So possession is legal in canada? |

Re: GBL in Canada
Based upon MrG's post it is clear that the Canadian government announceed that they would add GBL and 1,4BDO to schedule IV. Based upon the wikipedia quote from aionsan it seems that 1,4 BDO is added to schedule IV. I doubt that the wikipedia quote is 100% reliable though, because I am pretty sure that the Canadian government would not schedule 1,4 BDO, without scheduling GHB and GBL.
Wikipedia is handy at times, but posts like this make me wonder. Often people will post wikipedia quotes without checking the authorative source of information that has the real info. Wikipedia is little more than an information forum. What is needed in this this thread is a quote from a Canadian government website that has the schedule IV online. I know it exists because I have already posted it on in the Law & Order forum. |

Actually it is schedule VI not IV.
