Scar Tissue

I think I should mention I'm writing this review quite awhile after reading the book, but when I saw there wasn't a thread for it, I felt I should share my thoughts.

What a hell of a life this guy has had. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is rich with adventures and misadventures, telling of the life of a poor junkie who becomes a rockstar who becomes addicted to crack and heroin. It amazes me that if even half the drugs he claims to have ingested in this book were truly taken, that he could write this book so well and be a functional human being/musician. He really can write quite beautifully. The book is bursting with sex, drugs and rock and roll (in the Chili Peppers funky style) as well as some spiritual exploration (meets the Dalai Lama) and adventure travel (the jungle). Anthony Keidis ingested monsterous amounts of drugs. He tells about his ludes use, pot, acid and E. These are probably the least mentioned drugs, but he still reports his experiences on each of them. He started using coke and heroin at a very young age (before 15). His dad was a dealer. It's all very messed up and amazing. He kicks his addictions at least twice only to return months later.

He starts off the book saying how he has a needle in his arm. Then he says how he's been clean for however long, and it's just ozone in the needle.
Anyways, a must read for lovers of the band and rockstar biographies. If excess is your thing then check it out. Also for people interested in drugs and the behavior and thoughts of addicts.
9/10

Re: Scar Tissue

Hey i also really enjoyed this book a lot. Reading about Anthony's exploits was fun. The book did have some sad notes including parts about how dependent he was at times for drugs (especially coke). Reading about John's problems was also sad (as a guitarist i always thought about how tough it must have been to lose a guitarist and then have another one so close to death is was scary, only to see him get everything back together is very awesome). I am a big fan of the Red Hott Chili Peppers and this book was a great read for any fan of them.

I most certainly suggest it to any fan of the band or anyone looking to hear some deep thoughts on how drugs can really affect your mind and body.
