September 11, 2001//Drug War
It's been 6 years since the 9/11 attacks.
Don't you think 9/11, "2001" enemies should have been vanquished by now? How much longer must we endure this "war"? Now, on a separate, but similar, topic: The war on drugs has been going on for 35 + years. Don't you think that the enemies in this "drug war" should have been vanquished by now? How much longer must we endure this "war"? Gee! The USA must have a shit-load of money to be to spend enforcing it's political policies in such a wide spectrum. I guess the sick and impoverished must take a back-seat to maintaining a "swingin'-dick" profile on the world circuit. God Bless the USA! |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
Neither set of enemies will ever be defeated!
I'm not sure that the military-industrial complex wants the wars to end either. The US has thrived on wars since WW2. Billions are being spent but a lot of that is going to corporations such as Kellog, Brown and Root. The oil companies have never had it so good. |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
I don't understand why the american public is so scared over terrorism. If you look at lives lost, the numbers killed by terrorists are miniscule. Does anyone actually get on a plane and sit there scared to death the whole flight wondering if it going to be highjacked? I guess that’s what they prescribe valium and prozac for though
. I bet more people die in car accidents in a month than are killed by terrorism in a year. Not to mention aids, poor health care, murders ect, ect. There are so many better ways the US could be spending its money. |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
A related thread that was presented in a completely different way and in a manner that led the forum down the road to quickly being closed
September 11, 2001 I find it interesting how two different OP's can present nearly the same thread title in completely different manners. One which quickly led to the thread being closed and another which actually related to the website and will probably inspire good discussion. Some of this is experience, some of this is simply using a little bit of sense. Now back on topic: So true...what is even more upsetting to us americans is that this is our money! They are using our money to throw us in jail and brand us as criminals and they are using it to blind the american public to the fact that they have never come close to finding osama even tho this guy apparantly needs kidney dialysis to stay alive! |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
There may be some truth in this, but I think it is not clear cut as it may seem. I think it is just that the opinion set the thread up to head in a wrong direction which had the potential to turn into flaming and people bashing the people instead of the ideas. I think the mod was just playing it safe before it turned into something nasty.

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
I am glad to know that if national security is threated ,leaders will lead. Not to confused with the war in Iraq. Iraq is long overdue to end.... period
We as a world comunity see things in different lights @ D-F. Not a problem for me, I don't think about where each members is from and then nail them for their countries politics. If we had any French members I would treat them with the same respect as I would anyone else |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
One of the greatest benefits of widespread Internet access is the way it's exposing people to different cultures and worldviews.
I've often felt that spending parts of my childhood in two very different places gave me some perspective that those who spend their whole lives in the same place often lack. If one lacks the resources to travel, being able to talk to others from around the world with the click of a mouse is a pretty good substitute. I think it's helping people from all over realize just how narrow their reality-tunnels are. War is the health of the state, whether it's a real war, a cold war, a war on drugs, a war on terrorists, or - coming soon to a theater near you - a war on unhealthy food. The powerful and connected (on both sides of any conflict) profit at the expense of the rest of us. We pay the price in blood and treasure for their dreams of glory / purity / a world without obesity / whatever the excuse is this time. ECL |

Re: September 11, 2001//Drug War
beentheredonethatagain,
Granted, your post should probably have been moved instead of closed, but that is mod discretion. P/M the mod of that forum. Other non-drug political topics have been allowed in the past, but I think that lately, Alfa wants to focus more on drug-related policies, legal motives, and socio-political impact resulting from them. |
