SWIM has just purchased some kava kava capsules from an online source in the UK, the detials are as follows

swim just took 28 of thos and is feeling pretty good, swim is like 85 pounds

Kava~Kava in capsule form is a notorius rip-off. It is much better to seek out the real, powdered root and follow the preperation methods one can find in these forums by using the search engine.

SWIM never found any kava pills to be effective. SWIM got some 84% and ate the whole bottle to no effect. THe same source's root powder worked though.
SWIM has tried one working extract. It was vanatu root extract powder and was yellow with a chalk powder consistency. SWIM has not been able to find this stuff again at a reasonable price.

Swim is big on the traditional preparation of Kava; using dried Kava root and you know the rest. Nevertheless he has experimented w/ Kava extracts solely for the reason of convenience and has gotten effects from using just 4 of the 84% paste gels... the experience still lacks compared to using dried Kava root in that it wasn't as sedating nor anxiolytic.

In short, dried Kava root is the BEST way to go.

SWIM had kava kava in Fiji,mixed up by the locals and felt nothing. SWIM brought som home and experienced the same thing. A nice cocktail was more effective.

This thread is about 30% Kava extract capsules, not powdered root. There are other threads on the general efficacy and use of Kava.

SWIM used capsules long ago (roughly 30% kavalactones, 75 mg as well) and found them to be fairly effective. At least he thought so until he tried some powdered root. That is when one can truly know why kava has been labeled the ultimate of relaxation.

SWIM disagrees. SWIM emptied 8 of 30% capsules into glass of cold water and stirred it occasionally over 15 minutes, then drank it down on an empty stomach. The effects were definitely apparent, and surprisingly pleasant -- the first time SWIM actually tolerated the drowsiness caused by a substance. Also the best sleep ever ensued. The next day didn't desire a stim, not once. The effects were achieved and enjoyed again four times since that. It's too expensive to continue using though.

SWIM has once again located the root extract mentioned in the previous post. It is 40% kavalactone extract and is a yellow powder. It is also reasonable cost in bulk. SWIM takes it in 500mg increments, placing the powder directly into SWIM's mouth and letting it sit there. It does not taste too bad and kicks in fast. This is still the only extract SWIM has found effective and affordable. Root powder is still a reasonable alternative but SWIM needs a lot and the fiber is a bit hard on SWIM's digestive tract.

SWIM purchased a bottle of 60 liquid phyto-vegie capsules with liquid form of kava in them by the name brand"Gaia Herbs" for 18.00 on sale.He was QUITE pleased and has been ever since with this product.He says after taking14-15 capsules the most mellow,euphoric buzz comes over him since back in the days when he could still enjoy opiates.He gets quite high from this product and highly recommends it!

Eden, SWIM got the same ones , it's a nice glass bottle
The capsules are pretty good, the most he took was 9...but honestly he like to save them by taking like two a day
It seems like it's not much "buzz" but overall makes his day more relaxing.

ljfe-Yeah I know what you mean SWIM tells me they are quite expensive but also tells me..."trust me man,if you take up to 10-15 of these you will definately be flying higher than you may have thought possible.Careful though,too many make one quite nauseaus ..."Anyhow,probably more therapeutic to take them like your friend does.

SWIM ended up eating 12 of these capsules with a strong MDxx pill
fun numbness...the kava somewhat counters strong upper, but it feels great to be so high and down to earth.

And Eden, I wouldn't suggest this, but SWIM tried opening the Gaia capsules. Surprisingly, there's actual liquid inside. It tasted quite bitter and made SWIM's tongue very numb.
These capsules are quality.

SWIM took 20 of these, with no results. SWIY might have to take significantly more than this, depending on SWIY's goal with Kava-Kava.

Quality indeed,but WOW that must have been bitter!

Ayvah-Hmmm,sorry to hear that about your friend.Its odd though,I know someone who has tried this product to a similar effect.He says it depends greatly on how much he has eaten prior to kava consumption.A full stomach seems to 'lessen' the initial rush,euphoria and numbness in the mouth.There is a sort of delayed high.However,being full can also prevent nausea and according to my friend depending on how many capsules are consumed there is still a very satisfying warm buzzy feeling that can last for hours.

My blasphemous Koala Bear, appropriately perched on my left pupil, has found that Kava as a drink is MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE than the high-kavaklone capsules.

Sitting in a Kava Bar in Miami was an extremely spiritual experience for Mr. Koala, and even the Yogi Tea Kava Kava gives a pleasant (though not as intense as the authentic stuff the Kava bar has shipped in) very relaxed-feeling.

Now this thirsty Koala is ready to order some quality stuff, hoping for a strong effect like what was found in the treetops of Kavaklone City. What are some good blends/sites that I can pass on to this lovable friend?

SWIM use to see an acupunturist who did herbal medicine and would give him a tea with kava and a variety of other herbs. Helpful for anxiety if he had enough and needed to take the edge off. SWIM doesn't know where to get blends and think that would fall under sources, but SWIM will vouche that drinking kava is relaxing.
