Swim has a large container of GABA capsuls and is wondering if there is a possible use for it to make GHB, possibly to combat anxiety and to be used as a painkiller or for recreational purposes.

One would think that if UTFSE is overly complicated then yes, the process of converting GABA to GHB will be far more difficult than SWIY is capable of achieving.

GABA doesnt pass the blood brain barrier so no go on anxiety. def not a painkiller

It can however help one to build muscle and sleep.

Phenibut is a OTC suppliment that can help with anxiety.

Yeah, no psycological effect will be obtained as it is too polar to cross the BBB. But, it will act on the inhibitory system via receptors in the spinal chord.

As for synth, GBL is the best route...

a certain recipe can be found on the internet by using something called "google," i think swiy might have heard of it. but yeah the 'recipe' calls for a variety of chemicals that might be somewhat difficult to get at the local hardware store (but the avid home chemist with mailorder and wherewithal could buy them all the same). about the same amount of effort that goes into making the stuff trailer trash mechanics use, possibly a little more attention and time is needed for this one. but obviously not as simple as the GBL thing.
SWIM is considering it but that's a serious commitment. find the website and her secrets and tell me what you think.

gbl from gaba is fairly simple and straightforward
just make sure the inital rxn goes to completion
ie 24 hours

Especially as it requires purification afterwards [?], the product could be far from 99.7% which is the usual figure offered for GBL. The chemicals & labware might not be watched but they are not necessarily easy to get either.

yeah the purification is the part that needs to be worked on
the lactone is unusually yellow
much more so than one would like it to be
but still otc is otc
compounding chemists can source
the nitrite
but it wont be cheap
better to figure an easy way to convert
nitrates->nitrites
the only processes ive read are a little ancient
and still the scavenging of the NOx gases
is a problem for those with no fume hoods
although ity could be sucked out a window
providing theres no nosy neighbors
its not flammable but is quite smelly

Couldn't the part of the process that creates the NOx be done outside, since it doesn't require any complex equipment or heat source, and then the result be brought back inside for the rest of the procedure?
