Seroquel (Quetiapine) and muscle tone

Background: SWIM had a horrifically severe sleep disorder, similar to (but not) sleep apnea. SWIM became so erratic in his behavior as a direct result of sleep deprivation that he was briefly institutionalized.

The Seroquel they put him on worked. At a loss to explain this (and not willing to accept "nuts" as a diagnosis) he perused the PDR, where he noticed a "more common" side effect of Seroquel is enhanced muscle tone. This explained the why to SWIM, though the docs were skeptical, at least at first.

Not to debate this, just to ask if anyone knows of a drug that also increases muscle tone without being such a total mindfuck.

Thanks.

Re: Seroqel (Quetiapine) and muscle tone

Thanks for putting me on the track. Amphetamine would probably not work due to its stimulant profile, but I'm aware there are drugs such as Albuterol, that have few stimulant effects except for bronchial dilation.

The only problem is that, as most would find a "non-stimulating stimulant" that increases muscle tone to be a "failed" drug, the exact drug SWIM wants probably never made out of R+D.

SWIM might now consider looking at the non-steroidal asthma meds as candidates.

enhanced muscle tone? your wrong. It is muscle ridgity. Its a side effect since your effecting a main area of movement.

no those are two different possible side effects. the enhanced muscle tone is probably a result of a deeper sleep. like how GHB is sometimes used by body builders because it raises levels of human growth hormone during sleep.

Re: Seroquel (Quetiapine) and muscle tone

Please provide a reference for that statement Dimebag, or anyone for that matter. And try telling that to the many takers of Quetiepine who are constantly piling on the pounds due to increased appetite, sedation & lowered metabolism.

Sorry, but the increased muscle tone is indeed related to Extra Pyramidal Side Effects & dystonia, & not an otherwise unknown method of making of the taker look buff.
