putting different words on the effects of cocaine
hello all
we've all read or heard descriptions of the effects of substances, such as cocaine, and most of us use certain favorite idioms and slang to describe them. but if one was to try to go beyond common general keywords words such as euphoria, speedy, geeked etc, would certain descriptions strike swiyou as more appropriate, more vivid than others ? Description that seem more precise, or possibly convey a better understanding of what these effects are like, especially to someone who has never tried the said substance ? Effects of psychoactives are of course very intimate experiences, yet some descriptions seem to hit home more than others. as an example, swim once read somewhere a description of cocaine exhilaration as a prolonged feeling that "something was going happen", and somehow this resonnates with swim's experience does swiyou have similar favorites ? what woud swiyou choose as the most precise, vivid way of describing the effects of cocaine to someone who had never tried it ? b Last edited by Benga; 22-09-2007 at 12:12. |

Re: putting words on the effects of cocaine
hm in retrospect my flamingo would say that being high on cocaine resembles the feeling one would get when he is about to have sex with a new partner. Kind of shaky, kind of focused on what must be done, kind of excilerated.
but then again its dopamine, just imagine the anticipatory period of anything that causes pleasure (food, sex etc) and multiply it. Thats what cocaine feels like is swims opinion |

Re: putting words on the effects of cocaine
SWIM would compare cocine euphoria to the feeling of acomplishment, pride and wonder that SWIM has experienced after acheving something very difficult and beyond his hopes. Imagine a situation where you could hardly believe your success, and just feel great to be alive even when doing absolutely nothing. SWIM thinks this is slightly different to the 'looking forward to something great' kind of euphoria (although similar), in that there is no anticipation or expectation, no edgy or nervous element. Fortunately, SWIM has not experienced that aspect very much so far.
SWIM wonders if it is impossible to describe the rush from injecting by comparing to a common experience, as there is no way to naturally get the same stimulation? SWIM finds the effect so strong, that it goes beyond the normal range of happy feelings and is 'off-the-scale' so to speak. |

Re: putting words on the effects of cocaine
When swim does cocaine, everything is is great, no matter how bad it really is, as long as swim has more cocaine. Cocaine makes swim not give a shit about much of anything. SWIM cant be bothered with other peoples issues when he is coked up. Swim is the center of his own universe on cocaine, and swim loves it because swim is constantly worries, thinks, and wonders about what others think and say and feel. Cocaine turns off SWIMs "Give A Shit Switch".
Using cocaine is often refered to as "partying", and swim believes its with good reason. SWIM could be alone at home, alone, cleaning, and yet under the influence of cocaine SWIM has the same feeling he would sitting VIP at the club with a fresh drink and a couple of cute girls hangin on his every word. |

Re: putting words on the effects of cocaine
really good descriptions there. There is something about this focus also, in swim's experience swim gets a greater ability to focus on what would normally bore him, discussions seem more intense, and yet swim finds himself looking for more stimuli, more subjects to focus upon. An underlying feeling of insatisfaction within the satisfaction, which swim doesn't really feel in other dopamine rushes. in food or sex the feeling seems to be linear, whereas with cocaine less so, more back and forth movement between satisfaction and desire. Probably linked to the strength of the dopamine rush itself.
anther difference is that pleasureable activities are usually linked to a more precise notion of the pleasure to come, one is anticipating food or sex, yet with cocaine, if one is anticipating the next line, the feeling of anticipation is less focused on the act of taking cocaine itself, a kind of baseless anticipation, something is going to happen, the something itself not being clearly defined. b |

Re: putting words on the effects of cocaine
Obviously I have never used it, but from the accounts I have heard from misguided friends it is something like this -
It is a sweeping upwards parabolic curve of possibility. The possibility and opportunity to do anything, anything at all, to reach up and up until your fingers singe the red hot sun. It is powdered flight and energy and ever expanding horizons, flashing bright with determination and strength but at the same instance that shaky exuberance and nervous confidence that precedes and ends our most daring experiences. That forward thrust, that push to drive on and on into the unknown without fear or concern, for what could possibly harm a body so uplifted, so singing in every nerve with life and zeal? Those are the fleeting seconds of the cocaine rush, those dancing moments that you wish would never burn out. |
