High: Confessions of a Pot Smuggler
High: Confessions of a Pot Smuggler
by Brian O'Dea
This was a great autobiography in SWIM's opinion. It chronicles the life of a Newfoundland boy who experiments with drugs and eventually becomes a big time coke and marijuana dealer. He lived in Jamaica, the US and Canada, with travels to Columbia and elsewhere. He avoided the law for quite awhile, but did get caught up in coke addiction. He eventually went straight and began volunteering at rehab centers to help addicts. Years after his last crimes, the DEA busted him and threw him in jail.
This story also shines some light on the lives of some of the miserable inmates he meets and how awful American prisons are. Chapters alternate between his current stay in jail and the events leading to that point. It had a few trip reports, and quite an interesting one that lasted three days after ingesting a mystery powder that some of his friends speculated was belladonna. SWIM would recommend this book to people who are interested in drugs, the lives of drug dealers/users, and life in prison. It even has some good suspense and action.
