Top Schools For “Higher” Learning - USA
Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina is the nation's most marijuana-friendly campus, according to The Princeton Review's annual sourcebook, "The Best 366 Colleges," released this week. The report, which is based on candid survey results from 120,000 students nationwide, ranks hundreds of colleges in various categories such as academic achievement and quality of life.
Warren Wilson College topped Bard College (New York), the University of Vermont, the University of California at Santa Cruz, and Lewis & Clark College (Oregon) to emerge as this year's top school for "higher" learning. The US Air Force Academy ranked #1 on Princeton's "Top 20" list of least pot-friendly campuses. Warren Wilson College was also ranked by The Princeton Review as one of the most politically active campuses in America. The top 20 on the list: 1 Warren Wilson College 2 Bard College 3 University of Vermont 4 University of California-Santa Cruz 5 Lewis & Clark College 6 Pitzer College 7 Hampshire College 8 New College of Florida 9 The University of Texas at Austin 10 Sarah Lawrence College 11 West Virginia University 12 Wesleyan University 13 Guilford College 14 Skidmore College 15 University of Colorado, Boulder 16 Ithaca College 17 University of California-Santa Barbara 18 Eckerd College 19 Vassar College 20 Oberlin College |

Re: Top Schools For “Higher” Learning - USA
I was thinking about taking one year at Berkeley, which is near San Francisco. I know it's not listed, but from it's location, I guess it's not that "anti pot" (I'm from europe)

Never been to UCSB, but swim has a good friend who is pretty heavy into drug experimentation who seems to enjoy himself. UC Davis also I hear is pretty open minded, even though its not on the list.

There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence. - Jeremy S. Anderson love this quote, grandma has found alot of drug activity at BU. |

Re: Top Schools For “Higher” Learning - USA
EDIT: my bad. That list is marijuana-friendly colleges from a review of the best colleges. I got confused.
Princeton is number 1 over all, and Berkeley is the top public school. Take a year at Berkeley if you can, like half the professors (maybe more) have nobel prizes or some other insane credit. Their chemistry college is probably the best in the US, and is world famous for its achievements. And in the case of "marijuana friendly," UCSC is definitely up there, but Berkeley is there too. You have to keep in mind however that most of the really really smart guys up there don't use drugs though. Sal-A |

What do they mean by marijuana friendly? Does it mean fewest busts and prosecutions or do people just openly smoke a lot of bud there? |

Its funny... Ann Arbor, MI is probably one of the most marijuana friendly towns you can find in the US (if not the most), but the University of Michigan doesn't cut you any slack, due to federal funding. Come to think of it, unless you go to a private school where they don't charge people for drug offenses on campus, there really isn't a marijuana-friendly campus to go to. |

Seriously though, I would just look at which schools would be a better fit. If its a decent size school there will be something around. Certain parts of the country may afford students better or cheaper bud (or more favorable legislation), or maybe a school in an urban area would provide easier access to some substances, but its not likely a campus would be completely dry most places - unless you go to a service academy or an ultra religious school. Unless drugs have become so important to swiy that they supercede all other considerations, my Panda would recommend that swiy just not worry about it if he is considering applying to schools. He'll find them out when he gets to wherever should he really want to, and it may likely go better than if he went to the biggest drug taking school he could find and was around them all the time. Its good when all your friends aren't habitual drug users (or even casual ones), as if you feel the need to take a break should it start getting to you, you can avoid it easier. |

Re: Top Schools For “Higher” Learning - USA
NYU is very lenient as well as a very large avid and friendly drug using community
I have yet to hear of anyone receiving more than a "Warning" for being caught with weed. There are hallways in dorms that have perpetually smelled of weed so bad that the RA's don't even bother. There really isn't fear of repercussion. The only downside is the price of drugs in NYC. |
