Re: drinking after fentanyl

Be careful mixing fentanyl and alcohol, seriously. Especially if your tolerance isn't so high. Respiratory arrest (potential death) is a serious concern with this mix.

Re: drinking after fentanyl

SWIM has a high tolerance to fentanyl but could only drink about 3 cans, if your tolerance isn't high then leave well alone.

Re: drinking after fentanyl

Fentanyl seems to have a very short half life, of about two hours:

Quote:
Fentanyl
IM: 0.1 *
Oral: N/A [probably due to first pass metabolism -lulz]
Half-life: 2 hours **

* "IM" is the number of milligrams of the drug administered intramuscularly to be equivalent to 10 mg of morphine administered intramuscularly.

** The most quoted figure for the half-life of Fentanyl is 2 hours. This seems to be taken from the Drug Information Handbook. I have seen numbers as low as 0.5 hours. The effective half-life of Fentanyl delivered through transdermal and transmucosal systems is roughly 7 hours.

Yeah, you'll live after a couple of beers. But the danger is that fentanyl, being an opioid, acts on GABA neurons, and so does alcohol. Too many GABA receptors get activated and you'll stop breathing.

If fentanyl is your thing, fine. But if you want to mix it with other drugs, try to avoid alcohol for your own sake. Alcohol + opioid = potential death.

Given the short half life of fentanyl, to answer your question, you want to wait at least an hour or two, and even then moderate your alcohol consumption. I don't know you, but I'd rather not learn of your death after taking fentanyl and rocking out on vodka.

Re: drinking after fentanyl

Even someone with a high tolerance should treat fentanyl with extreme care! This is something for the opiate professionals, and even for them well it can be risky.Swim has a high tolerance for fentanyl and enjoys it but still treats it with the respect it deserves.Drinking and fentanyl is just not something swim would suggest.Besides swim has learned that a pure opiate high is much nicer if it's not tainted with alcohol.

Re: drinking after fentanyl

Swim no longer drinks alcohol as he suffers with chronic pancreatitis, (the reason swim wears fentanyl patches). But swim imagines mixing fentanyl with alcohol is a bad idea.
Stopping drinking was the best thing swim has ever done for his health, and gets much more pleasure from his opiates than he ever did with alcohol.
Swim wonders why spoil a fentanyl experience with alcohol anyway?

It really is the stupidest possible drug society coud legalise, I only drink it because it's so damn easy to get, and it is fun if you're with good friends, partying and the alcohol is just a secondary thing. But most of the time, drinking alcohol is mainly about getting "fucked up" and feeling good.

I once told two friends at a party that if all drugs were legal, I could probably go the rest of my life without drinking alcohol. There was a brief silent moment, and they looked at me as thought I had said "purple monkey dishwasher YOUR MOMMA, lulz" (you see, I live in Ireland. We're the only country where alcohol is basically a food group at the top of the pyramid [on average, we spend more on alcohol than food]). I tried to explain what I meant. One of them (my brother, pretended to look around the room like he hadn't heard what I had said, and other other tried to sincerely say "I understand" the way you'd tell an 87 year old woman "of course you're still beautiful").

We quickly changed the subject.

But really, alcohol sucks worse.
