lets say swim took a little to much fentanyl and feels like he possibly may OD. If swim railed some ritalin would it help him from going into repiratory depression!

as toighttoiger said Naloxone is whats used to treat an opiate overdose, if swiy ever thinks he/she has overdoses s/he should go to the hospital. better safe than dead, stimulants and many other drugs will at best do nothing and more often than not make things ALOT worse!!

Yes, naloxone is the answer. It comes in many names in different places. Narcan, Nalone, and Narcanti. It is specifically formulated to reverse the effects of opiate overdose. SWIM believes this stuff should be available to anyone as it is not something one could abuse and it would save many a life if friends could use it in the amount of time needed to save a dying friends liofe. So often one hears of an accidental O.D. where the person died alone. Was he really alone? Or did others scatter? This would not be the case if the authorities did not always need to be called. After all isn't it really about saving lives and not arresting a "junkie". Most authorities donn't agree but SWIM would just as soon have a friend close that new how to adminidter narcan as to put anyone in jeopardy of assisting any crime. Anyway afterwards is the time to talk to that friend about getting help. The first step is to keep them alive.

taking amphetamine w/ an opioid can be safer than taking the opioid alone because the synergism reduces the amount of opioid needed, and amphetamine, though not an opioid antagonist, will increase pulse, breathing rate, etc. (ref. Merck Manual)

Just because the mechanism is not the same as the antagonists, doesn't mean there is no merit in its action here. But, yes, naloxone would probably be the perfect antidote.

well if swiy knows your about to nod off too hard and die swiy has nothing to lose by railing some stimulants. actually swim think this would be positive in 3 ways. 1. amphetamine would add to the pleasure and why not go out with a bang? 2. it might help you keep counciousness longer 3. if swiy is going to die he without taking the amphetamine he wasted swiy's money.

i dunno man....if they choices are 1) nod off and die, or 2) rail some amph and cross your fingers...i'm going with 2.

i mean....i would have to say that amphetamine administration decreases the odds of death due to respiratory depression. the real danger is coming down from the amph before you come down from the opiate if you ask me.
