what the f*ck is happening? auditory hallucinations >:(
(did not know exactly where to post this, move if necessary, thx)
My cat is both pissed off and worried..for the past week or so she has been hearing (imagining?) things that she really perceived to be real at the time..but now each time it's happening she has to think hard about whether she really heard it or not. Last week she was prescribed hydrocodone and ibuprofen for pain and she did not take large amounts (only 10 mg hydrocodone at a time, 800 mg ibu.) a couple times a day for 5 days in a row. She has been smoking marijuana every day, but only in very small amounts (couple hits here and there). In the past month she has smoked approx. 7 g crack with other people. None of these recent drug-related things make her think they could be causing the auditory hallucinations because, well, this has never happened before with any of these drugs. The things she hears are like hearing someone walk in the house (assuming it is one of her family) and leave, or whatever, and later finding out that no one had ever been in the house during that time. She has heard a girl singing several times and it's always muffled, and so she asks her sister if she is singing/humming and she says no. Hearing the sound of cars driving outside down the street and then seeing no cars there. She also heard her friend who was over talking to someone in the other room, only to walk into the room and ask her friend who she was talking to and getting another awkward reply of "no one..." She is honestly hearing these things plain as day. Seriously, what the fuck is going on? My cat has no history of this type of thing happening and is relatively healthy. So, can any of the drugs listed above in any way be causing this annoying thing to happen? It happens when she is both sober and high (from mj, haven't taken the meds for a couple days and do not plan on doing so). This is weird and confusing and sorry for the really long post

Budgie used to get this quite a lot when he was into smoking weed everyday, although he can't be absolutely sure that was what caused it.
Although Budgie doesnt really know if 7 grams is a lot or not because he doesnt know a lot about it, he does know that Crack can cause these kinds of symptoms. Maybe it's a sign to ease up for a little while to give swiyour body a break? |

other aspects are also important: how is your cat eating, sleeping and caring for it's body? Better get some good doses of multivitamines / supplements in.
AFAOF experienced these symptoms after prolonged heavy use and binging of hallucinogenic amphetamines and the low intake of food that came with it. Heavy dosed multivitamines/food supplements worked wonders for him. Often it was a day or night difference. |

Swia agrees with alfa. swia has noticed endless occasions with certain substances but because the diet what was not matching, it can cause it these some what psychotic symptoms. it varies on person thou sometimes it can be cause someone for example if doing to much of a particular substance, begin to cause these little voice experiences. This depends on person some people it can be excessive crack/coke use or excessive weed use swia rarely sees it in cannabis but has similar experiences when opiate withdrawal sometimes happens, also she can state that when this has happened she has not eaten very well in the days prior. which can help this.
If you go to the wrong people you could get diagnosed schizophrenia. |

Re: what the f*ck is happening? auditory hallucinations >:(
A friend of mine had this same problem auditory distortion and paranoia. He noticed that when he came down from his soda rush (COKE-a-cola) he would always be more paranoid then his other friends and often find himself stuck to the window looking outside and thinking that everyone was watching him. After weeks of pleading he slowed down on his drug usage, which in turn made him eat more food. About a month later he was as normal as i have ever seen him, which isn't saying a lot, but its much better then he was at that time.
Compounds, Drugs, and even insomnia / malnutrition can all have different side effects for different people, but if there is a combination of the three I was told it can be just brutal. I wish your cat all the health in the world. I like to see healthy cats roaming the world, (as a cat lover!). |

Ibuprofen can cause tinnitus - similar to aspirin. Which means odd sounds are heard in one's head. Like looking at clouds or a blank white wall - your mind begins to fill in the blanks. This is normal. "Nature hates a vacuum." Topped off with the paranoid symptomology of cocaine, you likely have a self-induced chemical imbalance. Tell the puddy-tat to chill and follow other advice regards diet and vitamins and sleep. Then all will be well for puddy.
Or get a shopping-cart and become a bag-lady for awhile. Try to get a cart with a bent wheel. They're more annoying to hear at 4:00am being pushed up sidewalks while the perpetrator is screaming at their hallucinations and passing motor vehicles. Last edited by Nagognog2; 18-08-2007 at 18:49. Hahaha, my cat always was fascinated with the bag ladies lurking outside the shops, how welcoming do ya think they'll be?
The cat has only been experiencing these things for a week, and moreso these days than at the beginning of the week. She was just naming the substances she has taken recently to give an idea, but crack can't cause these things a week or so AFTER it's been smoked can it? And this never happened with marijuana before..so Nag I think you may have helped my cat solve the problem by pointing out the Ibuprofen thing. This is what she has been taking most often in the past week . |
