Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) + ambien (zolpidem) combo, a good idea?
Im am having trouble staying awake long enough to be able to trip on ambien so i thought i might take a 50mg does of vyvanse to keep me awake for the trip. Will this work? Keep in mind that vyvanse is different from adderall in the fact that it doesnt give you that instant euphoric rush like adderall even though it also contains d-amphetamines, but they combined l-lysine to it to keep you from getting that rush of speed and euphoria because of substance abuse. The d-amphetamines are slowly released into the body as it is digested in the body over a 10-12 hour period. Now if i took 20mg of ambien and 50mg of vyvanse what that keep me awake for the trip without one overpowering the other and without strainning my heart?

Re: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) + ambien (zolpidem) combo, a good idea?
Well, this thread has been here for awhile, so I'll give it a crack.
Vyvanse, to anyone who doesn't know, is Shire's new novel ADD med, an amphetamine-like drug that requires first-pass metabolism to hydrolyze it to it's prodrug. This basically means that you have to take it orally, as snorting it or plugging it will reduce its metabolism. With Ambien? SWIM would say no, but thats my personal opinion from a drug likeability standpoint. Will it kill you? SWIM also doesn't think so, as Ambien is prescribed for sleep after ADD meds, should they keep you up. However, SWIM thinks alot of Ambien's pleasure comes from the relaxation it induces. By adding Vyvanse, you'll eliminate it and be left with Ambien's delierent effects. SWIM thinks it will feel like a speedy Vyvanse buzz with some general 'oddness', but no euphoria, no relaxation, small possibility of visuals. I have yet to see proof that uppers and downers together have a negative effect on the body, however, I think in this instance, the Vyvanse will negate the Ambien, making it a waste of good drugs. |

Swim personally enjoys combining uppers and downers together to achieve a nice speedball effect. However, swim would be concerned about taking ambien with Vyvanse because both are very powerful opposites of each other and may end up causing heart problems or breathing problems.
If swiy is interested in sleeping after dosing on Vyvanse, swim recommends trying seroquel. Usually seroquel will knock swim out no matter what swim's on, and swim has never had any problems with using a seroquel after taking an upper. |

Re: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) + ambien (zolpidem) combo, a good idea?
I have only heard of a handful of reports of people mixing amph.-like stimulants with Zolpidem. Almost every one that I have seen involved very, very strong hallucinations. Not like typical visual effects from either drug, but full-blown hallucinations of things that aren't there, somewhat akin to diphenhydramine or anticholinergic hallucinations.
Whether or not this is a bad thing is up to SWIY. Also, I think that the reports I read involved mostly Methamphetamine. If SWIY does decide to pursue this combination, start with small doses and work your way up. This may be difficult to do with the Vyvanse, though. If SWIY is just worried about staying awake, then taking the Ambien during the daytime or at a time when SWIY isn't very tired to start out with might be the best bet.
