SWIM was arrested for 1/2 oz of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Advise please.

Sorry if there's already a thread on this, but SWIM just got bailed out and doesn't have much time until his court appearance tomorrow. He'll hire a lawyer, but first he wants to get an opinion from you guys on how he'll fair.

SWIM lives in Memphis, Tennessee. SWIM had less than 1/2 oz of marijuana on him at the time of a routine traffic stop. When SWIM was pulled over, he started to eat the marijuana, and was thus charged with tampering with evidence. He was charged with a class C felony.

Best case scenarios? Worst case scenarios? Loopholes?

Any advice would be more than welcomed. SWIM's got a future ahead of him, college at an Ivy starting next week, an upper middle class family, etc. He'd be eaten alive in state.

Also, the cops didn't read SWIM his rights. It was a rookie. Could that be a loophole?
