Subutex questions?
Sup all,
Im wanting to get on Subutex & was wondering how it all works. Im from Perth Australia so anyone from WA that could help would be much appreciated. Do i just make an appointment tell the doc my story & get a script for Subutex? Or is it a little harder than that. Is there some sort of Eligibility Criteria? Just wouldnt mind knowing before i make an appointment. Cheers Peeps |

Re: Subutex questions?
Hey, I'm in Australia, but on the other side of the country. I'm not too sure that the laws would be very different from state to state, given it's a government regulated highly controlled substance, and every consumer is databased country-wide. As far as I know, Subutex/Suboxone for maintenance therapy tend to be initiated through a local Drug & Alcohol Service.
I'll give you the run down of the process I had to get through. First of all, I had a difficult battle to get on it; because of a previous mental health history, the doctor here didn't want to prescribe it for me. After lengthy legal-aid battles, and behind the scene fighting from other staff members there, I finally was approved for the programme. You have to turn up for your first appointment in mild-moderate withdrawals (to avoid precipitated withdrawal) and answer question after question about your current drug use, previous drug history, other medications, medical problems, lifestyle (marital status, whether you have stable accommodation or not, etc), and any tattoos written down. You'll have your photo taken and placed on any drug databases associated with the programme, both state-wide and national. This is to prevent people from signing up at more than one clinic. After that, you'll start dosing, either at a clinic, or sometimes they can script through to another pharmacy, although that generally costs more, and may not be an option. You'll have regular appointments with a case-manager and the prescribing doctor. I hope that helps a little bit. I know it's not specific information, but this is controlled nationally, so I can't imagine it would be very different from state to state. Feel free to ask me any questions. I may be able to help. P.S - these days, they don't give out Subutex much. It's too easy to abuse. You'll most likely get Suboxone if you go on a programme, since they're trying to deter any IV use of it or black-market diversion. |
