need help with fentanyl please!

My friend suuffers from chronic back pain due to a car accident, and is currently taking 10mg-15mg of oxycodone every 4hrs. My question is, could my friend substitute these doses of oxycodone with a 25mcg fentanyl patch or is that dosage of fentanyl to strong for his tolorence???

Re: need help with fentanyl please!

A25 mcg fentanyl patch can be used by a person with no or low opiate tollerance, patches are great for day to day pain but there will still be a need for other painkillers to be used for breakthrough pain occasionally. Fentanyl is addictive and there is the potential for tollerance to develop, SWIM uses 100mcg fentanyl patches and 120mg codiene a day, she is still stupid enough to use heroin on top of that.

Re: need help with fentanyl please!

Yes SWIY could use the 25 mcg/hr patches without being in any danger of OD. SWIY is right to be concerned and ask questions though because fentanyl is some strong stuff. Keep in mind that everyone reacts differently to various substances and while wearing a patch could be more convenient(I would go for a generic; they are much easier to wear than the duragesic's in SWIMs opinion) it may or may not be a better solution for SWIY, speak with your doctor or pain management specialist about it as option. Hope that helps, Sorry to hear about your accident and hope you find a good solution.
