USA and field alcohol tests.

I hope this is in the right subforum.

Is it really so that cops in the states don't have breathalyzers in their cars so you have to get out and do silly tests and such?

Oh no...They definately have breathalizers but unless they know for a fact you're wasted they make you follow a light with your eyes and then if you fail that they give you a breathalizer test.

No, most police cars are not equipt with breath alyzers, they are too expensive, at least the type that can be used as evidence in a court room.
the test are standard , they only help the officer make a resonable guess , then if you fail the road tests then you will have to go to the station for the real test.
I once failed the road tests , but later when I was taken to the station and given the machine test, I passed 000 was the reading, oh the cop look at it look at me looked back at it , scratch his head and had me re test, again 000 no traces of alcohol in my blood.

Re: USA and field alcohol tests.

Some do, and some do not. They have you perform a sobriety test if you do not (in which you have to walk a straight line and follow a pen with your eyes and count backwards while balancing on one leg, etc...)

Re: USA and field alcohol tests.

Most of the cop cars around here don't have any breathalyzers. However, they will give you a field sobriety test (touching finger to nose with eyes closed, holding 1 foot 6" off the ground, etc.). If you fail these tests they usually take you to the station where they DO have a breathalyzer. However, i am not 100% sure of this, because last time SWIM was picked up (as a juvenile) they were taken to a hospital by the police for a drug test and a BAC. SWIM has never been in any trouble with the law as an adult.
