New 2 ---> Nitrous
There is this dude I know who is new to Nitrous. He researched far & wide over this new technology called the "internet." Using this "internet," he found out that, other than his routine yearly checkup at the dentists office, the most convenient means for experiencing nitrous was to invest in a nice $XXX metal cracker, a $XXXbox of ISI 8oz metal cream chargers, and a few $XXX 'bunching-bag' style balloons.
However, when the dude dispensed the gas into the balloon using the metal cracker, he could not remember if he should release the gas quickly or slowly. He vaguely remembered that "the internet," recommended he let it out slowly. But the dude tried releasing the gas at both speeds & was equally disappointed with the results. The results were disappointing to him because the overall volume of gas released by the 8oz cream chargers was not what the dude expected. The dude expected to obtain about 1-3 lungs worth of gas from each charger released into the balloon. Unfortunately, for the dude, he only got about 1/4...if that. As a result of all this mess, the dude is desperate for anyone’s advice. He wants to know how slow the gas should be let out, basically an estimation or average time per cartridge. He also would appreciate if anyone would let him know if he has to dispense multiple chargers into the same balloon or if he has the wrong chargers. Why isn't the dude getting the expected 1-3 lungs of gas, I guess would be the main question of this paragraph. Is there anybody out there who can help the dude out? P.S. if anyone else is New 2 Nitrous & has questions, comments, or concers, please post them. Last edited by Paracelsus; 10-08-2007 at 11:23. Reason: No prices here! |

Re: New 2 ---> Nitrous
My understanding is that one eight-gram charger is about one full lungful. It's certainly not three. I've heard of two basic techniques:
1. Breathe it all in and hold it; and 2. Breathe in and out of the balloon. Personally I would think option #2 would be the better one. Note that just breathing it in and then immediately exhaling will do pretty much nothing as the gas needs time to be absorbed into the bloodstream, so best to either hold it in or breathe in and out of the balloon until the effects start (nang, nang, nang ...). I think it takes about ten seconds or so. I don't think that the time taken to release the gas into a balloon is that critical, but if you do it quickly make sure that the balloon doesn't freeze (I've heard of balloons getting frozen at the neck, which can make them burst as the frozen rubber is brittle). Also, if you let the gas out quickly, you can sometimes get a little more out by letting the charger warm up a bit - it's not normally enough to be worth bothering with though. |

Re: New 2 ---> Nitrous
During all his research, this guy still didn't read our rules. No prices are allowed. This is a prewarning.

Re: New 2 ---> Nitrous
Well the dude thought that since the rules & regulations stated "Prices & sources of common products from national chain stores like K-mart are allowed," it was acceptable to list the prices of his purchased commodities because, hypothetically, two out of the three products could have been purchased there. Furthermore, none of the products purchased were illegal in the United States, so this would fall under the rule of "common products" that anyone may purchase.
Anyway it doesn't even matter because the dude figured out what he was doing wrong. As it turns out, there comes a point where the pressure inside the balloon exceeds the pressure being released by the cream charger. As a result, continuing to unscrew the metal cracker when the charger is nearly used up will only result in the loss of gas from the balloon because it will just begin to blow out the sides of the cracker. It took the dude 4 chargers to finally figure this out, so if someone is new to this, beware of this common noob mistake. When the dude was finally able to get the device to work properly he was averaging about 1 good lung full of air. |

Re: New 2 ---> Nitrous
^^ SWIM guesses SWIY means nitrous rather than air lol.
Its possible that in SWIYs research they were reading about the new larger 16g chargers, they of course contain double the gas so roughly 2 lung fulls, but they require a 16g suitable disperser. SWIM does not know exactly what sort of cracker SWIM is using but, if its the cream dispenser type the speed of screwing chargers in and out SWIM would suggest should be fast (being careful not to cross thread the cover of course) the release of the gas from such dispensers into the balloon would usually be regulated by a trigger, from there SWIY can make their own mind up about speed if release. If SWIY is using a cracker(dispenser) shaped more like a fat cigar, then SWIM would suggest SWIY cracks the cartridges quickly and swiftly, to ensure the dispenser seals and does not leak... these dispensers can get very cold though, so gloves should probably be worn. As for the rules, SWIM and friends all fell foul of them when they were noobs, but they got used to them... prices and links got SWIM, he now knows never to link to any site that sells something, or any photos on them and just never post prices, Peace dude and SWIM hopes your nitrous explorations go better. |
