Opinions - alcohol shipped to a po box while underage?

swim will be opening a po box soon and was wondering if any swimmers have experience ordering alcohol to a po box while still underage. swim has a feeling hes not the first person to have thought of this but are there any safe guards to prevent this?

im sure others have tried it, but hey it could work, i though if u order online u need to fax or email them a picture of your license or the mail guy has to see it when you sign for it, but like fireflywa said itd be easier to find sum1 over 21 to buy for swiy, swim used to make there pot dealer buy alcohol for them.

yeah the town bum has vanished and swim dosent feel like running out with a hand basket full of jd anymore. swim was thinking of just filling out that he was 21 on the form for the po box. oh well its worth a try, what is the dea going to stake out the box for a bottle of 151 lol.

no but the shipping courier is going to require an ID showing you're 21 and a signature before delivering the alcohol, and the post office is not going to "vouch" for you.

SWIM has had absinthe shipped from overseas before. It came from germany but was spanish. good effect. Had the swiis stuff too. It's good, but the effect was just as pronounced as sthe spanish, and much cheaper. Besides I don't like the clear, absinthes. I like to watch it turn milky green in my glass. ANYWAY, to get to the post, I might add that shipping liquids from foreign countries is illegal. But for someone who requires signature AND underage is a really bad idea. Just find a bum, or I used to work in a restaurant and this jamaican guy named Monday would buy it for us. Just be patient grasshopper. Now, being thirty, liquor ins't such a big deal, but I know where your coming from!!!

The independent company will ask to photocopy your ID and keep it on file when you open an account with them for the mailbox. You can't lie to them about your age unless you use a fake ID.

Fedex allows you to ship alcohol domestically, and the employees at those independent mailbox stores will sign for the package for you when it arrives and put a slip in your box. If you wait until the next day and especially a different time of day so there's probably a different worker on duty, they'll never notice what you're up to.

well swim is going to try it and if the feds want to set up a sting op to get a bottle of 151 let em. swim could picture it now "subject is in custody and we have secured the bottle" lol

Well, the "teapot still" would be legal (as, say, a water purifier); running alcohol through it would not be. (Unless you were making "fuel" ethanol with appropriate permits.)

Distilling alcohol is punishable by up to 5yr/$10,000 US:

Sec. 5601. Criminal penalties

STATUTE:

(a) Offenses
Any person who -
(1) Unregistered stills
has in his possession or custody, or under his control, any
still or distilling apparatus set up which is not registered, as
required by section 5179(a); or...
(8) Unlawful production of distilled spirits
not being a distiller authorized by law to produce distilled
spirits, produces distilled spirits by distillation or any other
process from any mash, wort, wash, or other material; or .....shall be fined not more than $10,000, or imprisoned not more than 5
years, or both, for each such offense.

If you find a bottle of non-alcoholic liquid with equivalent weight to you alcoholic beverage of choice, you can replace the price tag, and purchase the alcohol through the self-checkouts at supermarkets. SWIM has done it before, just make sure no employees see you.

dude swim cant even go into the supermarkets in swims area because he has done so many bottles out the fire exit and going out the front door ith a handbasket. if i walk into the store the managers come out and tell me to leave the premisis.it sux. do you have any brands that you use that are the same weight? like a captan morgan and a sobe or sumptin.

Underage drinking (and, I agree, the US thing on alcohol is absurd) is one thing, but do you really think stealing is the answer?

bcubed, you can distill many more things than alcohol. You don't need a license to distill water or essential oils, and the equipment is essentially the same as an alcohol still.

Right - but the fact still remains that USING that equipment for distilling alcohol is, in fact, illegal in the US.

Whether or not one chooses to DO something is one thing, not knowing the laws one is thinking about breaking is quite another.

Since this thread is in the alcohol forum and already covers something of a grey-area question - it's best to be clear that distilling alcohol, whether via fractioning column, pot still, freezing, or other method is indeed illegal. Distilling water, oils, or essences is not. Just because a tool is legal for one application does not de facto make it legal for another.

As for the original question - shipping alcohol to a mailbox isn't a bad idea - but if the person is underage - it may end up being difficult to GET that box. If that person DOES get a box - the best course of action will be to order from an international source as they have lower drinking ages. Even if it gets delivered - the mailbox store may not release the package to a minor if the box says that it has alcohol in it. Even if it does work perfectly, the shipping costs are gonna stack up and that person may be better off simply driving to another town to track down another friendly bum.

Shit bro you aint got anything to worry about. Ordered fomr absinthe myself, had to pick it up from the airport post office and they didnt even card me then. I seriously doubt they would card you to chekc your own box. They put the key in your box for the bigger package boxes ya dig?

all online alcohol sellers use credit card. a credit card is a form of federal ID in the US. a bill was written in the earlier years of this decade exactly for this.
