Teaching children about drugs?

Budgie was thinking the other day, when's the right time to teach your children about drugs?
He does think it is important that they know about them, but he's not sure what age would be the right age.

And what age would you allow swiy children to partake? Budgie definitely wouldnt be happy about any of his doing anything before the age of 16, and probably only cannabis until they were quite a bit older.

Personally I think kids should be taught around age 10. They need to be taught the whole truth. Not simply that "drugs are bad" so avoid them. Rather they should be taught all of the truth. Taught that drugs are pleasurable and seductive. If they are taught the half truth that they are bad and should be avoided then they are smart enough to realize that as many people that do drugs that there must be a payoff and they will be more likely to experiment to see for themselves. They need all of the truth to make an informed decision.

When SWIM was 10 and had "DARE" they never said that drugs were bad. Sure they said a lot end up with addiciton and a lot cause problems...but they also said the really really nice effects that came out of em.

the reason they tell you drugs are bad is cus they are ILLEGAL.............DUH!!!! The police have every right (and swim's full support) to tell you that you shouldn't possess/sell/buy illegal drugs. They find you doing it, you got to jail, simple as that....they don't care about the individual at all.


SWIM personally would teach his kids about drugs at around 10 also, and SWIM would denounce them. Drugs are fun, but overall you weren't meant to abuse them (ur body I mean). If SWIM's kid was happy enough to not retreat to drugs, well that'd make SWIM pretty happy. There are a lot of fun things to do out there that stimulate SWIY's natural bodily drugs, don't need other ones. And of course SWIM would throw into his kid's lecture how's SWIM's being a hypocrite in a way, SWIM uses drugs, but not for relaxation or fun though...however swim wouldn't want his kid to use em for the same reason SWIM is.

Swim would tell his kids that the biggest risk of drug abuse is the threat of legal action. To that end most of his effort would be focused on educating his kids about their civil liberties and how to avoid being abused by the police, which is good knowledge to have even if one never intends to touch drugs.

Haha, very true any harm that anything short of radical drug use is very minuscule when compared to the legal consequences that rain down upon you if caught possessing them. I actually think that my DARE instructor hinted toward this...

DARE instructor - "Alright kiddies now that we've gone over that using drugs equates to almost certain instantaneous death we'll move onto another topic. The only thing more dangerous than using drugs is possessing them. So here is a piece of advice... Consume your drugs as quickly as possible!"
