Pharmacology of Propylhexedrine?
Anyone know where I can find the pharmacology info of benzedrex. It is swims absolute favorite substance. He loves it's euphoria so he assumes theres a lot of dopaminigeric action going on. Just wondering what kind, dopamine agonist or transporter substrate he assumes, but since the effects are quite different from amphetamines trasporter substrate doesn't seem right.
Well since swim is on this right now he had some time to think and has a theory in case anyone else cares. I think it must bind to the same monoamine transporter as amphetamines, but only limit the reuptake of the monoamine, and not actually reverse the direction of the transport like ampetamines do in high doses. It seems dopamine reuptake inhibition is strongest, followed by serotonin, then norepinephrine. Also this may have an effect on glutamate too. Could be a bit tricky testing though because swim for one is scared to take an something like dxm to test it. Last edited by ironmics; 02-08-2007 at 00:44. |

Swim suspects that propylhexedrine is far more active with regard to serotonin that amphetamine is. This is based on minor trails and a body feeling somewhat similar to the psychedelic phenethylamines. He also suspects much more NE activity that amphetamine based on the strong vasoconstriction. The increased NE activity may also account for the "waves" of euphoria some have reported, as it is reasonably clear that NE plays a roll in dopamine release.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's definitely not an SSRI in regards to seratonin. It just doesn't feel like any ssri except maybe a slight relation to mesebrine(kanna). I think it would be maybe closer to an agonist. Also it has none of the headaches that I associate with high levels of seratonin. Definitely a huge ammount of dopamine, I'm still on the fence on whether it has NE activity though. NE usually speeds me up a lot more than PPX does, could regular epinephrine cause vasoconstriction? However, the stimulation does have some things in common with yohimbine. Just a I can't sleep sleep no matter what I do feeling. So maybe an a2 antagonist also? I just wish more research would be done on this. Swim loves it quite a lot, other than that he can't stop licking his lips or scratching his nose.

Yes, both epinepherine and NE cause vasoconstriction. Frankly swim does not fully understand the difference in effects of E and NE, the vasocontrictive properties of both are well documented. From what swim gathers they induce vasoconstriction in different areas.

All I've ever understood is that epiniephrine applies more to periph nervous system than central. It readys body systems for action. Increase heart rate, etc.

"Propylhexedrine is structurally similar to methamphetamine. The only difference is that the phenyl group of the methamphetamine molecule is swapped with a cyclohexyl group. It is because of this that propylhexedrine is not an amphetamine, nor even a phenethylamine. It is most like methamphetamine in terms that it contains a methyl (CH3) group in positions Rα and RN."
