Richard Branson admits to smoking cannabis with son

BRITISH tycoon Sir Richard Branson has admitted joining the mile-high club and taking drugs with his son while on a surfing holiday in Australia.
The 57-year-old Virgin Group chief, whose empire includes the Virgin Blue airline in Australia, has revealed how he smoked cannabis with his son Sam, 21, while visiting Byron Bay.

Branson said he and his son travelled to the popular northern NSW beach resort to learn to surf while Sam was enjoying a gap year holiday after finishing high school.

"We had some nights where we laughed our heads off for eight hours," Branson told The Sun.

"Sam and I did have a lovely experience in Byron Bay.

"I don't think smoking the occasional spliff is all that wrong.

"I'd rather my son did it in front of me than behind closed doors."

Branson, who also admitted to trying cocaine and ecstasy, said he believed cannabis was all right "in moderation" and had no regrets about smoking a joint with his son.

"I think I made the right decision as a parent then," Branson said.

"I smoked the odd spliff as a teenager myself and I think it is something people usually grow out of in their mid twenties.

"It didn't really do much for me.

"I do not condemn cannabis, but of course working hard and being stoned do not go hand-in-hand. So these days I try to be healthy."

Branson's revelations about taking drugs with his son coincided with the release of extracts from an interview he did with the men's magazine GQ.

In the lengthy interview, Branson told the magazine that hell-raising Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards was the one who taught him "how to roll a joint".

He also admitted to trying ecstasy once, "but it didn't have a massive effect on me" and experimenting with the virility drug Viagra.

"I had to tie something around my trousers for the rest of the next day to make sure nothing showed," Branson said.

The entrepreneur also revealed snippets of his racy sex life, including how he joined the mile-high club in a plane toilet when he was 19.

"I was sitting in economy on a Freddie Laker flight, next to this very attractive lady, as we headed to Los Angeles," he told the magazine.

"We got chatting and it went a bit further.

"I remember getting off the plane and she turned to me and said, 'Look, it's slightly embarrassing but I am meeting my husband at arrivals, would you mind holding back a bit'.

"But it was a memorable flight.

"The problem with plane loos generally is that they are very small, and the acrobatics can't take too long because there's no room and people start banging on the door.

"What I remember vividly is seeing four handprints on the mirror as we finished, and thinking I'd better wipe them off."

The Virgin Group chairman joked he would be good at Tantric sex, "but I keep dropping the book".

well done richard, oh so now it transpires that if swiy smokes weed, not only could he be in elected government or president of America ,but he could be one of the worlds most successful entrepreneurs.
