1st Intense DXM experience @ 7mgs/kg described, looking for some feedback
Last night SWIM took all of 1 8z bottle of CVS-brand cough-only medicine (DXM is the only active ingredient), which is about 710mgs of DXM. Swim weighs 225lbs (220 now, ha), which makes lbs to kgs very easy for him, so he had taken about 7mg/kg of DXM. Swim figured he'd be getting a high 2nd to low 3rd plateau dose. (He ended up getting a high 3rd - low 4th plateau dose which he will describe further below). Swim realizes it is not uncommon for people to vomit on DXM, but @ 7mgs/kg? Swim must also admit that this was only his 2nd DXM trip, and the first was only half as much. He is well experienced with other drugs, but not dissociatives, and nonetheless was humbled this time.
Anyway, that was not all Swim had taken. About 15 mins after he took the DXM, he took 10 diphenhydramine 25mg pills. Swim has tried dosing on diphenhydramine a couple of times before, as many as 25-30 pills at once, with nothing else, and he never got sick (though he is done with those trips forever). In this case he had only taken those 10 pills because he knows DXM increases histamine production, and swim was trying to both prevent allergy-like symptoms and, ironically, prevent sickness. Swim has read it works better if you take the diphen. Some time BEFORE taking the DXM, but swim figured the muscle-relaxing properties it offers would be a nice bonus on top of the DXM, which is why he took them slightly afterwards instead. Swim had done this before with the 350mg-dose of DXM and it was fun. Swim also took 3 tylenol (acetaminophen) pills of the arthritis variety, which are each 650mgs time-release. Swim takes these to combat fever symptoms with the bonus of further pain desensitization, though he doesn't know if this actually works for either purpose at all when tripping on DXM. Swim had also drank some very very strong coffee about an hour before he took anything, he probably consumed about 300-500mgs of caffeine. This was probably a critical mistake because this was the only thing left in SWIM's stomach when he took the DXM and diphenhydramine. SWIM had also been exercising for about 30 mins after he took the DXM but BEFORE it mostly took effect, though swim suspects this could also have contributed to his sickness. He doesn't know why he was exercising.... Swim had been sitting on his computer, maybe playing counter-strike but swim is not 100% sure what he was doing right before this happened. Swim started to freak out a little bit in the final minutes of DXM taking its full-force. At the same time, swim stood up, probably to go pee but he never made it to the bathroom (which is attached to his bedroom). He took a few steps, and then he felt sick, not only normal stomach sickness but also the sort of feeling you might get from hyperventilating or something like that. Swim felt something else too. Swim felt tingly vibrations all over his body. Swim is also well-versed in the metaphysical, and spiritually experienced. Swim can meditate and do a controlled out-of-body projection under the influence of no drugs at all. The way it feels when SWIY leaves his/her body via projection is exactly the same tingly electric feeling SWIM felt right now on the DXM. Swim is also convinced that this is the last thing a person feels when they die. This freaked him out a little bit more, because he recognized the feeling, but he certainly wasn't meditating, so he was afraid he might be dying. Swim isn't afraid of death, but he doesn't want to go out on an overdose, for the sake of his family, so he was rather concerned. Swim could've probably projected at that point, but instead he tried to hold onto...his soul. He was afraid that if he allowed his spirit to leave his body, even consciously, he might not be able to come back. So he didn't leave his body. In the back of his head he knew that death was probably severely unlikely, but it did cause him to walk in a circle a couple of times (pondering if he should call someone to take him to the hospital), instead of bee-lining it to the bathroom. He could've made it...cleanup would've been so much easier... Anyway, so then he collapsed down to his knees, and the projectile vomiting began. It was very unpleasant, but swim remembers being grateful and impressed by the human body's ability to know when you've had too much, and protect you even from yourself, and he loved his body for that. It might be worth pointing out that, in Swim's vomit, there was nothing, just some purple liquid (the cough syrup), maybe a couple tiny pieces of stomach lining, though it may have been just tiny remaining pieces of food from earlier, because he had eaten real mashed potatoes (not instant), which had red skin on them. What stood out most to Swim was the presence of two-and-a-half undigested white pills. Unfortunately the diphenhydramine Swim had taken was of the generic "simply sleep" variety, being solid white pills (which is made with calcium, btw), as compared to the red allergy variety, so he couldn't tell if the pills he expelled were those or the tylenol. Maybe its insignificant anyway. SWIM is making this post to ask the well educated people here if they can help SWIM isolate what it was that caused him to throw up. He MIGHT want to try DXM a few more times (but not for a little while at least), and he doesn't want to throw up next time. He will be keeping a small trash bucket next to him though, for sure. Swim is spending a lot of time typing this post and would love to know what other swiys have to say about what lies below. SWIM appreciates SWIY reading through that unpleasant bit, so he will also share his trip, and he would like to discuss that too, to better understand DXM. Swim has read a lot about DXM, but from erowid and third-plateau, the first having some sketchy information on this particular substance and the second being rather outdated. Swim is not 100% sure if he is allowed to mention other sites...his apologies to the admin if Swim is not. After Swim was done vomiting, he started tripping hard. He was lying on the floor sideways even though he was only a few feet from his bed, but he didn't want to "go to sleep", so he didn't get into bed. For some reason, he thought it was very important that he get back onto the computer. Instead he lay in place on the floor for about an hour, just tripping out. Swim had some dream-like experiences, like he felt a part of him was away doing things with other people (whom he knew) in a different place, but it was just out of reach. It was on the edge of his consciousness, he was aware of it, but only dully, not like a lucid dream or a vivid open eye hallucination. It kept alternating between that and moments where Swim was more "in his body", more consciously aware of his thoughts. A couple times he opened his eyes to look at the vomit a few feet a way, vaguely thinking "shit, that is going to stain so bad", but not really caring, and looking at the computer, realizing it was much too far away to reach, despite the fact that people needed him to be over there (which was a delusion in itself). So he would close his eyes again, and remembered reading that DXM can give you very vivid close-eyed hallucinations, that you can imagine things and they appear much more real. So he decided playing around with that. Sometimes he saw vivid faces that he kept morphing with his imagination. Sometimes he felt almost like he could see through his closed eyelids, though the surrounding "world" was mostly brown. Then his CEVs changed from somewhat concrete to seeing...its so hard to describe...almost like rolling fields, Swim was flying through them, but instead of green grass it was alternating black and white lines. Swim could whip these lines around and change the patterns with his imagination, it behaved like the ripples in water when you run your finger through it. Edit addition: Swim just remembered that during this time, at one point he opened his eyes and saw tiny spiders crawling all over the floor, centralizing from where the vomit was. He was still in his mind enough to think to himself "they are just hallucinations", and just lay there on the floor completely unconcerned that these spiders were crawling towards his face, in fact he stared at them with interest, because despite his past high-dosing of DPH, he has never actually had any solid spider-hallucinations on it, which he hears are common. Eventually those people-on-the-edge-of-a-dream convinced Swim that it was time to do his duty, and get up and make it over the computer. His first attempt failed. He stood up, took maybe one step, and started feeling sick again, realized it was probably a bad idea, and crawled the rest of the way (a few more feet). He reached his computer chair, but he was too sick to climb into it, so he turned the other way and buried his head into the foot of his mattress, and went back to tripping out. This point, in Swim's opinion, is the most interesting. There was a voice in his head, no longer the "group of dream people" from before, but rather one voice. Swim was carrying on deep conversation (in his head) with this voice, as two friends might chat with each other. It was almost like swim was in another universe, where all that existed was him and this other voice he was talking to. This other voice was telling Swim about Swim. Swim remembered reading that DXM can cause schizophrenia-like effects, and he thought to himself "they will think I'm crazy for talking to these people". They being "real" people, and the latter being a schizophrenically-generated persona. But at the time, swim didn't care. He was glad to have a friend with him. A good friend. He thought of him as a totally real person anyway, if not on another plane of existence. This person knew everything about Swim. Swim wishes he could remember more of what the conversation was about, it was definitely a two-way conversation and not a monologue, but swim can't remember what was said. Swim is sane this morning, but he almost wants to do DXM again for the sole purpose of talking to this other person, if for nothing else, even though he knows that who he was talking to was 99% likely to just be another aspect of himself, and not some spiritual guide or something like that. To learn more about himself, Swim wants to do it. Maybe it was Swim's ego, super-ego, or ID? Just the fact that Swim liked this person he was talking to so much (which was probably Swim's ego), makes Swim happy, because it means he is truly happy with who he is. That he loves his self. Do any other SWIYs understand what Swim is saying? After a little while longer, swim did get up and get back on the computer, and resumed playing counter-strike. People use voice-chat in this game, swim could understand what they were saying. Swim could also type basic coherent sentences, though he was making many irrelevant comments. Swim had double vision, not the purely horizontal sort one gets when crossing their eyes, but rather it was more like his double-vision was X-shaped. He could barely understand what was going on in the screen, though, considering that, he was playing fairly well. He would stick onto a teammate because otherwise he had no idea how the map was laid out or even what map he was on at all, even though he's been playing the same game for something like 7 years. Running forward in the game made Swim feel like his head was being pushed backwards. With the X-vision, seeing an enemy close on him was more like...seeing Jaws leap out of the water and close his massive jaws around you. Yet, Swim was still getting off some good accurate shots somehow. When Swim's character would fall to the ground, Swim felt this whoosh of tension release, almost as if HE was the one dying, and not his character. It was very odd. After about 45 minutes, Swim got tired of playing counter-strike, so he loaded up lord of the rings online, but once he got to the character selection screen he thought to himself "this game is disgusting, besides, i'm supposed to be playing counter-strike" and so he went back to that. This is notable because normally Swim loves to play LOTRO, especially when smoking marijuana. Once he got back into counter-strike he only played for a few minutes longer, and then he went to bed. Swim doesn't remember any of his dreams, but when he woke up 6 hours after going to sleep, he was still having a first-plateau experience. Even now, his pupils are still dilated enough for an observant person to notice. Luckily, Swim is not a child, and he can have dilated pupils if he wants to. Besides, he has off today. Swim is also happy to report that he was able to completely remove the vomit stain from his carpet. Overall, Swim feels like he is in a good mood now, and feels happy with his existence and fairly well-rested despite a bit less than 6 hours of sleep after a very long day and a sweet-and-sour, and taxing, trip experience. Swim doesn't feel euphoric, he just has a sense that he is happy with the world just for BEING the world, like he is grateful that the world is here for us. It must be a lot of hard work, being the world. The world does sooo much for us, but what do we do for the world, other than cause trouble? Last edited by lltphoenix; 28-07-2007 at 06:41. |

Re: 1st Intense DXM experience @ 7mgs/kg described, looking for some feedback
Throwing up while taking DXM is extremely common. Swim takes nothing but DXM and still has to puke a couple hours after injestion. The diphenhydramine probably didn't help your stomach either.

Re: 1st Intense DXM experience @ 7mgs/kg described, looking for some feedback
Swim realizes this now after reading more about DXM experiences on these forums. He also did not realize that diphenhydramine can be a dangerous DXM potentiator (he thought only 2nd and 3rd generation anti-histamines had this property). The other sites he'd read said nothing of it. Still, Swim found the experience enjoyable and enlightening. Next time, maybe swim will try drinking grapefruit juice and taking less DXM.

Re: 1st Intense DXM experience @ 7mgs/kg described, looking for some feedback
Swim usually doesn't vomit from DXM, but always has when he's taken more than 50mg of diphenhydramine with it. He thinks the combination is far to dehydrating, leading the body to expel what it still can once it realizes what the problem is.
He has also had the same feeling Swiy did - the vibrations and the feeling like he was about to exit his body, perhaps permanently. He's not much of a mystic, but it did scare the crap out of him. This is especially likely with a combination if diphenhydramine, DXM, and cannabis. He advises waiting for the DXM to peak before ever even considering weed. ECL |

The kid around the corner says that DPH helps make the DXM trip more hallucinogenic. TKATC says that without DPH the trip is more existential.

Quote:
SWIM would assume that the experiences that are common to a diphen trip might have possibly been amplified slightly or altered by the DXM, but the puking is common from DXM. SWIM would also like to apologize for bumping a year old thread lol Last edited by InTheCity; 13-01-2009 at 21:36. |

Re: 1st Intense DXM experience @ 7mgs/kg described, looking for some feedback
diphenhydramine and dextromethorphan are both very competetive to be absorbed by the same enzyme. taking a lot of both at once is not a good idea.
on the subject of vomiting and DXM trips, SWIM always finds those trips to be much more hallucinogenic and often spiritual for some reason. he is not sure why |
