Health - Getting a Medical Marijuana Prescription

SWIM wants to obtain a prescription for medicinal marijuana. What exactly is the process. I've searched the forums but found no guide. SWIM does have some insomnia and pain in his joints, but doesn't think this would qualify him for a prescription so he may need to embelish a little. SWIM called this place to make an evalutation appointment, but when he told them he hadn't seen a doctor in a few years and had no official condition on record, the guy said, "we're not interested in you, bye." WTF. SWIM presumes this means that he must first go to a regular doctor and complain about something so it's written down, and then go somewhere else to try and get a prescription. SWIM lives in LA where it's supposedly easy to get medicinal marijuana, but it seems difficult. Could someone please explain the best way to go about doing this? Thanks.

In order to stay out of legal trouble they likely have a policy of documenting history of other trial treatments with little results.

I'm sure there is a recognized religion out there where people only use ethnobotanicals/herbs for medicine. (What is it?)
