Dissociatives a.k.a. Anti-Depressents?

SWIM was prescribed several anti-depressents for his clinically diagnosed depression (ie: Effexor XR, Zoloft, Prozac, & Paxil). Very, very unfortunatley for SWIM the antidepressants did not help much, if at all (and with Effexor it actually just made it all worse). Anyway apparently some chemical produced by the brain is produced in lesser amounts in SWIM's body. I believe it to be dopamine but I'm not sure. This chemical is some how key in daily good moods (yet not in any sort of extream circumstances or drug induced ones) ergo depression was a major problem for SWIM. Now SWIM need not go into detail any more about that anymore he thinks, but he would like to know if it is a possibility that dissociatives are capable of producing a chemical like dopamine, or influencing the seretoin receptors to secrete more actively. And SWIM wants to be careful that he states that this is not a mere euphoria during the trip or immediatly afterwards; it is not even a true euphoria at all, as far as he can tell. It seems to last about a week as a subtle yet effective means of keeping any sort of depression from surfacing. So SWIM would like to know if it is placebo or otherwise.

Re: Dissociatives a.k.a. Anti-Depressents?

Hm. I think I know what you're talking about.

The Blind Hermit also suffered from depression; he spent much of his life abusing amphetamines. As he learned more about neurochemistry, he came to realize that his problem was dopamine - lack of it. He's off the amps, for the most part, but now takes MAOIs.

Could be that your friend is like him. If Swiy's problem was related to dopamine, then the chemicals you listed above probably won't help at all - they all affect serotonin. Except for Effexor, which also affects norepinephrine. Tobacco would probably do more for him, though that has its own set of problems.

My friend Swim has noticed the afterglow affect of DXM. He feels at peace with himself and the world around him for days after a strong dose. Molecularly speaking, Dexy is kind of a slut; it affects a number of different receptors. It may affect dopamine (I think the jury's still out on that one).

Much thanks says SWIM, for your bit of input out of SWIY's experiances. I suppose it really doesn't matter if it's helping SWIY and SWIM.

dxms a mild ssri and yeah it helps maintain mood.

swim couldnt keep it to tiny everyday-every other day doses, and it turned into 2nd-3rd plateaus every day for a couple years, now depression is always there, nothing is good, brain is fried.

It's a shame that you ruined a good thing. Moderation is an ally.

Re: Dissociatives a.k.a. Anti-Depressents?

I'm not sure about DXM, but ketamine has been shown to have anti-depressant effects lasting upwards of a week after the initial dose. A quick google search produced this site, though there are lots more articles on it out there.

my goldfish agrees with swiy, long-term high-dose DXM use has proven to do no more damage to him than what his prescription for celexa has done
