Do you "fiend" for opiates

I was wondering what the addiction to the opium/related drugs was like.

I have experience with methamphetamine addiction but have been off for several years.

Does one fiend for opiates like he does for crack or meth?

Like, every single time I woke up I would serisouly fiend to the point of shaking (I know its not physically addictive but the mental fucked w/ me)

Also I stopped in a days time and not much bad shit happened to me, I was shaking alot and fiending but did not have any serious withdraws.

So, my question is, what is the w/draw like from serious addiction and what is the fiending sensation like?

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

Having fiended for both Amphetamines and Opioids (the latter being SWIM's definite drug of choice) SWIM would have to say fiending for opioids is much worse. Not only do you have the mental side of it all, you also have the physical shit to contend with. Withdrawals are not pleasant - hence the reason why people addicted to opiates can go to such great lengths to get their next fix - avoiding withdrawals is the main motivation. It gets to the point where getting high isn't the aim anymore. Avoiding withdrawals, and thus feeling normal, is. Getting high as well is just a lucky bonus.

This is SWIM's experiences though - people are different, the way they react can be different, but in the end, addiction manifests the same way for everyone.

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

I tdy MON basically said what SWIM would say. Opiates are much easier to get addicted to phsyically. You might fiend for coke or meth but you normally crave the high or the rush or whatever....with opiates it becomes more of a ritual and if that ritual is not followed, consequences are paid.

SWIM fiends. His cravings are worse than those brought about by any amphetamine or other stimulant he has tried.

Raven3davis hit it right on the mark. The ritual is a big part of the addiction. Opiates are one of the only drugs that give you the wellbeing feeling along with super self confidence and usually no one can tell that you are on anything, they just think you are a real outgoing fun person. But when the dope is gone it gets hard to talk to anyone for more than a second, you loose that personality boost.

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

Let me explain it this way...

When I was in active meth addiction I would literally sit on the floor, crying, while scratching at my skin begging God for my hook to call me back ASAMFP.

It was the only thing on my mind and I could not focus on anything else until I got the next hit.

What is it like fiending for opiates?

Is it just mentally realizing that if I don't get high today I will w/draw, and that would suck ass!

And what is w/draw like?

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

opiates in general being with out them is hell when one is addicted. everything is not considered. jus goes out the window, everything else is sickening, with out the warmth the sensation of being at peace with everything to ease the sickness on how bad that is ... oh so terrible so horrible like all the bad things relived at once with such a sickness to the aches and pains of physical addiction.

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

SWIM never used opiates and opioids for long periods of time, to prevent addiction or high tolerance, but he did have enough experience with almost everyone, up to diacetylmorphine, and opiates and opioids would be much more addictive in his opinion than stimulants, which SWIM has plenty of experience with as well.
One can keep on using opiates and opioids for a long time, with stimulants you can only keep using for a certain time, while you can keep using opiates and opioids for as long as one wants. Opiates and opioids are also physically addictive, and have horrible withdrawl symptoms, which stimulants don't have.

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

Swim has fiended for opiates on one specific occasion, and that was after running out of his long term supply due to daily use.

The cravings hit Swim hard and Swim could not focus on anything but finding more. Swim eventually found more and drove an hour for six free 5mg oxy's at 3am when Swim had to work at 6am that day.

As said by another swimmer in this thread, Swim would agree that it's not so much a craving for the drug, but a feeling that if this drug is not consumed as ritualistically as it has been (same time same amount every day), the world will fall apart.

It's a lot harder to abstain when you have a ready supply, but you are trying to bring your tolerance down.

It depends on how much one has used, what one has used, and for how one has used it, but serious opioid withdrawls can be hell, both physically and mentally.

the withdraws are kind of like this...you wake up earlier than you normally would because you can't sleep comfortably, that is saying that you went to bed high, because if you didn't...you didn't sleep at all. you tossed and turned and wanted to pull your hair out and then shoot someone because sleep is impossible, so once your eyes open from sleep if you got it, the VERY first thought is that you NEED to get high or else your day is doomed. you can't do anything, fuck work, fuck any plans you had for that matter. your mind will scheme and scheme and scheme some more until you find a way to score because your stomach hurts, you have the shits, you are SO achy, no energy, depressed, hopeless, you get the idea. it also sucks because you feel so shitty and you know that all you need to go from feeling like shit to a million bucks is one little pill or bag. awesome right?

Re: Do you "fiend" for opiates

SWIM's withdrawal kind of goes like this: SWIM finishes using drug(s): crack and heroin are her poison...SWIM usually stays up all night after finishing using and way into the next day: feeling fine. The effects of no sleep catch up with SWIM and she starts to feel down about running out of gear/having no money for drugs the next day. SWIM goes to bed. SWIM sleeps solidly for something crazy like eighteen hours. SWIM wakes up usually having a hot flush and feeling sweaty and a little bit shivery. SWIM is so fucking depressed cos she's got no drugs. SWIM can't thing about anything else apart from drugs...SWIM goes through every possibility in her head about how to get drugs. After SWIM has realised there is no way of getting drugs today SWIM tries to go back to sleep....SWIM can't bring herself to get out of bed and face the world...nothing is worth getting up for. SWIM keeps making herself go back to sleep. Everytime SWIM wakes up she just shuts her eyes and tries to sleep again. SWIM will stay in bed for up to (sometimes over) 48 hours. By this time (withdrawal symptoms aside), SWIM is feeling pretty ill from too much sleep. SWIM drags herself out of bed. SWIM has no energy, her body aches from lying down so long, her legs ache from withdrawal. Wherever she sits or lays she can't get comfortable....SWIM keeps shivering and sneezing. All she wants to do is sleep through until the next time she has money but now she can't sleep at all....SWIM counts the hours/day(s) until she knows she has money available and can sort herself out. Sometimes SWIM will go two or three days without gear and her boyfriend says to her 'your through the worst of it now...you might as well try and stop for good'. Even though this makes sense as soon as SWIM has money she feels she has to get drugs just to feel normal again. Whether she is or not SWIM certainly doesn't feel like she's through the worst of it.....SWIM gets drugs and spends all her money just to feel like a normal human being....And so the cycle continues........
