MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

SWIM's university makes it mandatory for each incoming freshman to take a brief online course called 'AlcoholEdu'. This course gives facts about alcohol consumption and how it can affect one's life and so forth.

Eventually the course comes to a section which describes alcohol's interaction with other drugs. The following picture depicts a quiz which the user is to take after completing this section: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/9...lseinfoal2.jpg

There's no right answer. Unless MDMA is a hallucinogen, which, for every one of SWIM's acquaintances, is not.

SWIM also has the suspicion that if he personally knew more about ketamine, he would refute its classification as a depressant, but alas, he is not well knowledgeable in that area.

Corruption and misinformation are rooted deep within the system, and are nigh unavoidable. Of this I am sure.

In my opinion, ketamine is a depressant. It's primarily a dissociative (it cuts off nerves from the brain, thereby making it difficult to feel pain) but depresses the cardiovascular and respiratory systems also.

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

Swim kind of hallucinates if large-ish (2-3 pill equivalent) doses are taken.

eg: blinks his eyes once and the room (club) suddenly feels much smaller (like a wall very suddenly appeared to his right cutting off some of the crowd) then blinks again and it disappears... weird huh?

Sounds like those two didn't take too much MDMA. Sounds like they use too many computers.

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

The way I understand it, MDMA will cause a user to hallucinate when used in very high doses - but this is not the primary or desirable effect of the drug (for most) - this is known as psychosis.

Psychosis also occurs in very high doses or with prolonged use of amphetamine, yet speed is never classified as a hallucinogen, though hallucinations are described in the possible side effects of the substance.

Alcohol, too, can cause tracers and visually distort reality, but it is also not considered a hallucinogen.

I'm sure there are many further examples.

Bongo & Co. experimented with MDE back yonder as it was found only a slight increase in dose was enough to elicit visual effect. This was not the surprise.

The surprise was the prevalence of pictograms that resembled Chinese writing. Regardless of the ethnicity of the volunteer. Go figure that one out!

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

SWIM, and most of SWIMs friend have hallucinated on MDMA and MDA, mostly when they start smoking huge amounts of weed when they start coming down.
SWIM has seen his cat made out of polygons, friends looking at him from the corner of his vision who arent even there, he even thought he was at a party with loads of people at one huge dose, then realised he wasnt and all the music and people faded away. very dreamlike hallucinations, but seem much more real (at least for SWIM) while you're hallucinating them than acid.

one friend actually saw his room as a bachelors pad, his computer being a shaggy red armchair, rugs on the floor, disco ball and everything, just for a few seconds.#

SWIM was under the impression this was a common thing, but maybe not =p

swim has a similar EX-perience... swim's been rollin 4 about 3 years, and had not hallucinated until about 2 months ago... took a new press that he had never taken, and vision actually seem to sharpen... when swim focused on the visual details around him, small details on things would start moving, much like a shroom trip... this has only happened a couple of times tho

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

SWIM has likely experienced the 'sharpness' effect you mentioned while using Methylone, and even had a bit of color distortion (his white carpet seemed to turn a greenish turqoise), but he has never experienced this on MDMA.

Marijuana + MDMA will no doubt cause some hallucinations if enough weed is smoked and MDMA is had; for SWIM, marijuana is sometimes enough on its own to give mild and inconsistent patterning (though this could be the after-effects of SWIM's relatively persistent psychedelic use) and peripheral vision hallucinations for SWIM.

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

MMDA is the one of the series (3,4-Methylenedioxy -2-Methoxy-Amphetamine) is known to cause eidetic imagery. And not with an overdose. Just standard dosage. But you won't likely see this one offered. The precursor is virtually unobtainable, unless one was truly dedicated. MMDA is Schedule I as of 1970, though had never appeared on the street.

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

SWIY obviously knows a lot more than SWIM, so he wondered what SWIY thought of this:

SWIM rolled 2 nights ago with crazy effects.. at first everyone felt really ill.. anxious and sickly. one friend felt like shit all night and just lay in bed from 9pm-7am, without sleeping. SWIM and his friends were definitley up and euphoric, but in a very wierd, negative way. PMA they thought?

as mentioned before, comedown was when the fun started.. everything was glowing blue. there were these square paintings, inside larger square frames, and they were just growing larger and smaller. the whole room was rocking like it was on a hinge at one point. so much stuff was moving or growing in size.. door handles, the TV. effects similar to this:

When SWIM went outside into the bright sun at 9am after being inside for 7 hours, the only way he could describe it is acid vision, and at the same time, tunnel vision without tunnel vision... ie, the tunnel vision effect, without all the blurring. depth was SERIOUSLY confusing swim, in the same way tunnel vision does.. things were really far away, then they were really close, so quickly it almost was freaky. swim has terrible eyesight, wasn;t wearing his glasses, and when this happened he could see everything so clearly and distinctly.

Budgie has hallucinated on MDMA, mostly after sniffing a menthol inhaler. He hallucinates a lot on MDA.
There was a night where he was sitting monged out on beans in his front room with a few friends. He started to watch the graphic equaliser display on the hi-fi intently, and as it bobbed up and down to the music, it started to spell out words like 'blue cheese' and 'spaghetti'..so yeah, Budgie thinks it is definitely a hallucinogen

Re: MDMA is a hallucinogen? Funny SWIM never told me about that!

Let's get something straight. A hallucination is something indistinguishable from reality. The big, green monster in the corner is REALLY there. A psychedelic vision, or image, is there - but you know it's not really there. Deleriants like atropine - the monster is real. Psychedelics like LSD or, debatable, MDA are not true hallucinogenics.

Spaghetti.

That is generally a sign of an overdose with most M-class drugs.

Nac, from looking at the picture, it made me question some things, like why don't they tell you the good things drugs can do?

Marijuana: Glaucoma
Ecstacy: Fucking happy.
Shrooms: Giggly

seriously.
