First salvia Divinorum experience and questions

Swim has recently tried salvia for his first time. Swim has been reading up on salvia for months now, and had a general idea of what salvia is about, so he bought $35 worth of 13x extract at a local headshop. And yes, he realises that he should have tried the leaves his first time. So swim got a friend to sit for him, and sat in his room with the lights dimmed, meditated, burned some sage to clear negative energy, and got into a general peaceful mindset. Swim put about 1/2 a bowl into his marijuana pipe, and took one large hit and held it in for approx. 26 seconds (friend timed it). After what swim would guess to be about 15 seconds, he already started to feel it's effects, and by the time he exhaled, it was coming on fairly strong.

About 5 seconds after the exhale, swims perception of reality shifted in ways he cannot describe. At first swim began to panic, and then remembered this state was merely induced by the savia, and almost instantly calmed down. The Simpsons was on TV during the "trip" (if you can call it that), and the characters seemed to narrate his thoughts, feelings, and emotions of the trip with random noises and gibberish. Swims bedroom door and computer, both of which were in plain view, began to talk to eachother (seemingly telepathically, no actual sounds) about what swim was experiencing in a semi-taunting fashion (They may as well have been pointing and laughing). At least, that is the best way swim can describe it, as he himself does not entirely comprehend what was happening at that moment (althought he did at the time). Then swim began to come down, so nothing of interest happened from there.

Questions:
1. Swim has read that salvia can be physically uncomfortable, this seems true. Throughout the entire duration of the trip, he felt like "needles" were poking him whenever he tried to move, and in the direction he was moving. For example, if the top of his hand was facing upward, and he moved his hand upward, he would feel that needling sensation on the top of his hand. If he moved his hand downward, he would feel it on the bottom of his hand. It wasn't painful, just mildly annoying. Is this normal? Or is it just another thing that differs from person-to-person?

2. Has anyone else had the TV's "narrorating" effect or anything similar? What about the door/computer talking part?

Overall swim cannot say he liked the experience. He didn't dislike the experience by any means, it's just hard to label it with any level of enjoyment or lack there of. All swim can really say about it is it was incredibly interesting and odd. Swim has has used his share of psychedelics, and salvia is just... more or less infinitely unique.

Re: First salvia experience and questions

For SWIM, he thinks the physical pain might just be a hallucination. He has imagined his body being stretched and ripped apart in different directions and thought it hurt, although it probably didn't. But a couple of times he has emerged from a 5 minute salvia trip with a boner and covered in sweat (not really painful but strange and uncomfortable). SWIM has imagined weird things swirling around his head such as an old lady screaming at him while holding a birthday cake, go figure.

Re: First salvia experience and questions

I believe it was on erowid someone reported that Bart and Lisa (the simpsons was on the TV) were standing above him looking at him with something like pity. My roommates cat said that part of why he stopped doing Salvia with the TV on was because at one point the newscasters were giving a blow by blow of his experience. My cat, while she has never had that stron of an experience involving the TV, has felt a very strong connection to the people on it. My cat believes that these types of experiences are rather common.

Re: First salvia experience and questions

Swim tried salvia a few more times, each with the same 13x extract, and these last times he had an incredibly dreadful feeling. For example this time he got a large hit, and managed to hold it on for 47 seconds. Swim can't even describe the feeling, it wasn't physical, is was just deeply and emotionally painful.

Swim's friend who has about 4 years experience with salvia and is a 60x veteran explained what could have possibly caused the feeling. Swim thinks very logically, and because of this swim's friend said the salvia was probably trying to disconnect him from reality, but swim just wasn't letting go. This seems true, as swim was still paying attention to his physical surroundings. Well, basically what I'm asking is how does swim "let go"? How does swim allow his mind to be removed from reality? Should he meditate?

Re: First salvia experience and questions

mif finds that music relaxes him greatly. in fact, he wont smoke salvia without his ipod handy. his personal favorite music to smoke salvia to is a trance group called antiloop...

in any case, the general nature of salvia is dysphoric.... expect to be somewhat anxious/uncomfortable no matter what you do.

There's no in-between for my monkeys when they smoke Salvia. They're either completely gone, or see everything as it really is. In the latter case, despite having a greatly altered mentality, they are still able to interact with the real world without any distortions.

Re: First salvia experience and questions

for SWIM's first experience SWIM felt himself get ripped in all different directions, and then this numbness feeling took over SWIM and it felt like SWIM was sprouting fingers everywhere. Then it felt like SWIM was on a vertical wheel.

The weird thing was, during the whole trip, SWIM was aware of the room he was in.

QUESTION:

has anyone ever experienced this... when SWIM tripped *SWIM's only tripped 2wice now* SWIM wasn't really aware of the trip while it was happening, it was only during the first stages of coming down that SWIM noticed what he felt and tried to describe it...but while it was happening, it seemed like things were just happening physically and at the speed of light...then SWIM started coming down and that was the only moment he could even really acknowledge what happened.

like...both times SWIM was physically aware of the room, and yet, when he tries to describe the feeling...it seems completely absurd to even think that SWIM was in the same room he was in.... iunno..it's really hard to describe

Zach...

SWIM has felt the needles thing, in fact SWIM feels it all the time.

As for the narration, SWIM never does it with TV on because he read that this can be very bad, he has however done it with music, and the lyrics "narrated" parts of SWIM's trips.

No, the feeling swim got could not have been normal. The best way he can describe it is he saw and felt a sort of "split" in his perspective. Imagine looking at the center of an opened book, the split looked like that except inverted, so it bulged out in the center. Both sides of the bulge had their own characteristics. Swim felt as thought he was "trapped" on the right side of the bulge. This side was very negative, however it seemed quite familiar (as if hes been here his entire life). The left side of the bulge was unclear and vague, but during the trip he had the impression that that side was very positive and peaceful, however every time swim attempted to venture into that side, he felt like he was being hammered deeper into the right side (emotionally). Eventually swim sort of gave up, and waited out the effects of the salvia. This was very bothersome, as since salvia's comedown is gradual, it was difficult to tell when the feeling was finally over.

Right on, at least I'm not the only one Yeah when homer started narrating swims trip (with what seemed like random moans and grunts) it annoyed the hell out of him.

Re: First salvia experience and questions

my friend Ivan smoked salvia for the first time today and told me all about it.
ill just shorten his name to "i" for space purposes

well i smokes weed on a somewhat daily basis and has tried mushroom tea once (very powerful trip)
so today i picked up some 20x salvia and went to a nice grassy little park fairly secluded
with a good friend, the friend went first who is just a daily weed smoker and wanted to go first and did. he took a big blast of the 20x out of a pipe with "Love You To" a very psychedelic Beatles song. he said at one point he heard voices saying "bring him to me" and felt like he was being pulled by vines to something

anyway i went next, first i took a bowl of the 20x held it in for a bit and just felt a little light headed sat on the grass and decided to try another bowl. the weirdest part was i couldnt remember the start of it kicking in or phasing out. the friend described i's actions
as if i perfectly mimed opening a door and stepping through then ducking into some sort of smaller passage. then i aparently stuck my face into the ground... the physical actions of i didnt really have any connection to the images and thoughts i was having. i felt as if he was in another world and attached to everything and everytime i moved and things moved around me they left this blocky pattern trail like youd see if you flipped pages in a book. i also felt a female presence somewhat in control of everything happening but that faded out fast. the visuals were main confusing because of how fast the drug builds up peaks and fades away. anyways

i found the physical actions very weird and wondered if anybody had a similar expericence.

another almost chilling thing ill add is when the friend went i recorded it on a cellphone
and as it started to kick in (he got up from laying down) a weird sound like a frequency change (hard to describe) came through the speakers the music was playing through. why this was so weird is that the music was played on an ipod and we relistened to the song and it played through clearly. weird stuff :S

Re: First salvia experience and questions

SWIM has noticed this whole narration thing. He doesn't watch TV, but when people are talking he just feels like what they're saying correctly relates to him. For instance someone metioned a movie and SWIM immediatly thought he was describing how the forest (at the time) had a midevil feel to it (but he wasn't).
