Spice Causing MDMA-esque Sleep Paralysis?

SWIM realises there are two other threads on Spice but thought this didn't really fit into them so.....

Swim just wanted to get a few second opinions and experiences on this. Recently SWIM has been smoking a good bit (probably too much) of Spice Gold smoking mix. In the last couple of weeks SWIM has begun to experinece sleep paralysis at night after smoking it, particuarly if they smoke more than normal and late at night as one might do at the weekend.
One of SWIMs associates has also mentioned Spice effecting them in this way. SWIM is aware that sleep paraysis is somewhat common amongst frequent or heavy MDMA users and has afflicted SWIM in the past when using MDMA too frequently or heavily.

SWIM isn't really too clear on the exact relationship between MDMA use and sleep paralysis but knows the condition usually occurs with a melatonin imbalance and that melatonin production is tied in with tryptophan and with serotonin production. Maybe someone else knows a little more about it?

SWIM has never heard of people experiencing this or experienced this sleep paralysis condition themselves with any other common psychoactives and so is curious as to what Spice and MDMA have in common that other common psychoactives do not?

Anyways SWIM was wondering if others have noticed this and what thoughts you have on it? Is something in Spice causing somewhere near the same level of melatonin/seratonin imbalance as MDMA? And what would that say about the other possible side effects of Spice? Or about the Merchandise 7X of Spice that has so far made it unreproducible?

Could SWIY give more specific details of these sleep paralysis symptoms?

Re: Spice Causing MDMA-esque Sleep Paralysis?

Classic sleep paralysis basically,

(from wikipedia)
The primary symptom of sleep paralysis is partial or complete skeletal muscle paralysis during the hypnopompic or hypnagogic states. In other words, it is the sense of being aware that one is unable to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. Sleep paralysis may also be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.[1] These hallucinations can be auditory, tactile, and/or visual. If a polysomnograph is taken, at least one of the following will be shown: skeletal muscle tone suppression, REM sleep at sleep onset, or dissociated REM sleep. The paralysis can persist anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes before the person is able to either return to REM sleep or to become fully awake[1]. If the person returns to REM sleep yet remains fully aware, they are likely to enter a lucid dream state.[2]

Pretty much swim is lieing in bed asleep and then wakes up but only half wakes and is still half dreaming, eyes are open and can see and is aware of environment but can't move a muscle, try to call out but can't talk, lasts about a minute or so and then small movements become possible like twitching a finger or toe and then the effect is broken and you can move fully again.

SWIM suffers from sleep paralysis too; and also experiences violent physical jerks, flashes of light in the third-eye region and humming noises when trying to drop off to sleep.
This doesn't happen all the time, just in the weeks following heavy MDMA ingestion.

Swim has experienced it after smoking opium at night. He actually thought it was a really interesting experience, but it was pretty scary. So, other substances can cause it too.

Please stay on topic. The posts above have nothing to do with spice.
