Smoking oxycontin

SWIM has recently discovered the pleasures of chasing the dragon with oxycontins. However, he wonders how much oxy is being wasted/burned and if there are any oxy-specific techniques for optimal efficiency.

As a sidenote, SWIM finds that snorting oxy makes him very irritable, but smoked oxy does not. Do any other SWIMMERS out there notice this? SWIM feels the high is genuinely subjectively different between smoked/snorted OC, but he can't fathom any scientifically reasonable explanation for this.

The high IS genuinely different, just as freebasing heroin feels different than snorting it which in turn feels different than shooting it. Different methods of ingesting a given substance often cause significant differences in the high, and OC is no exception. Smoking something will genuinely hit you faster and last a shorter time than snorting it will, for example. However the big divide between freebasing heroin and smoking OC is that oxycodone pills are full of binders, fillers, coloring, and the like.

Smoking them is VERY bad for you. Now admittedly abusing perscription medication by crushing it up and snorting it isn't wonderful for you either, but smoking pills presents risks far above and beyond that of the drug itself. It is also, as you've already guessed, quite wasteful. It's not possible to get anywhere near all of the oxycodone being released into your lungs without some burning away, nor to absorb all of the oxycodone in the smoke you do inhale. More importantly there is NO safe way to smoke oxycontin pills, and you're putting your short and long term health at risk every time you do it. Pop or snort those pills instead.
