Poppy Tea and Cimetidine
I know this guy named Anonymo who is a semi-regular user of poppyseed tea. Yesterday for the first time, he decided to use 200mg of cimetidine about 45minutes before downing tea made from 240g of poppyseeds and again about 2 hours later. He usually uses more poppyseeds than this, but he lowered his dose for safety sake.
For those of you that don't know, cimetidine is a drug which is used to lower the acidity of the stomach (for people with reflux etc.) and is also an inhibitor of CYP2D6 (?) which is at least partly responsible for the breakdown of morphine. Thus it is a potentiator of morphine.
Anonymo noticed that there was a definite increase in the effects of the high when taken with cimetidine. He would estimate that the cimetidine increased the effects of the poppyseed tea by about 50% - 80%.
Unfortunately though, Anonymo's mum had made some kick-arse gnocchi as well as a frickin' awesome eggplant dish and he ended up having quite a big meal. Naturally, he was also unable to turn down the profiteroles for dessert. Given the fact that he had taken twice the recommended dosage of cimetidine, he had very little stomach acid left to break down his huge meal and was left with gastric reflux well into the night... He ended up purging at about 3am (T+10hours). Thankfully, there was no nausea whatsoever though...
Next time, Anonymo plans to take only one dosage of cimetidine 45minutes before taking the poppyseed tea and thereafter consuming a decent glasss of grapefruit juice every hour or two for further potentiation. He will also try to avoid big meals.
He is thrilled to have found a way to reduce the amount of poppyseeds he needs to get high and can't wait till his next day off where he plans to repeat the experience with even more poppyseeds. He won't shut up about it....
Personally, I don't recommend anybody try this. He has a decent amount of tolerance and this amount of poppyseeds could be quite dangerous to the unitiated. Not to mention the fact that different brands/batches have different levels of potency. Stay away I say.
