Can poppy seeds that you buy for cooking with actually get you high?

Possibly, it depends on which brand and type one buys though.

IMO, from what I've read, it seems like a lot of effort for a weak buzz.

From Poppyseed tea maybe, made with dried poppy pods, but I'd seriously doubt someone could OD on tea made from store bought poppy seeds made for cooking.

Here's one example of someone who died from an OD of poppy seed tea made with store-bought seeds. It may be the same person that seeingred heard of:

According to this website the problem was due to variations in the morphine content, which resulted in an OD when he used a stronger than usual batch.

Strange, I wouldn't have imagined that one could OD on store bought poppy seeds, I know there're trace amounts of morphine in them, but I wouldn't have imagined it'd kill someone. Still, 3.5 lbs is a lot.

The kid was also on sertaline (zoloft), diphenhydramine (benydryl), alprazolam (xanax), and bupropion (wellbutrin). Could this have affected his reaction? I know sometimes a combo wit pills can be surprising, and the more simultaneous drugs the higher the risk of interaction.

Also, 3.5 pounds seems a very high dosage, especially if the variance form seed to seed is as varied as previously mentioned. Couldn't this be done completely safely with a lower amount of seeds and perhaps not mixing it with 100 pills?

Yes, the alprazopam and diphenhydramine are about the stupidest things one can take in conjuction with opiates. However, trust me store bought seeds contain PLENTY of opiates.

speaking of poppy seeds swims mum went overseas after selling her home when cleaning up swim found several containers holding thousands of poppy seeds swims mum had collected from her poppy garden over the years swim doesn't know weather to bake poppy seed bread or toss them out after reading this thread injestion is not verry clever oh well the refuse collector will have fun lol
