Storing - How long will dry mushrooms retain potency?

Does anyone can tell me how long dry shrooms can "be good"?I mean it's dangerous too eat dry shrooms tha are 1 year old?Have to say that they stayed in a closed bag in a dark place....

From what Swim knows, mushrooms loose potency quickly until they are fully dried, when they maintain low amounts of psilocin/psilocybin. If dried and properly sealed, chances are good that they still have some degree of potency after a while, although it would probably be less than the ideal amount. Musuem specimens have been found to remain potent as long as 28 years, however the commonly accepted threshhold to potency is about one year. The main thing Swim would look for is anything foreign growing on them that might not be wanted in your body. If Swiy stores them in an inert gas such as carbon dioxide, or nitrous, and it's in a glass bottle it should store for years. Just remember to keep them away from light, heat, and oxygen. It may be easier to just get a vaccuum sealer and store it in his freezer.

I would not call CO2 or N2O (Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide) inert gases by any stretch. They are quite active.

For such purposes I'd suggest Argon or Nitrogen (welding-supply outlets).
