Allergy/nausea from only specific types of alcohol?
SWIM is an alcoholic, drinks almost daily but is gets highly naseous and feels like SWIM'S tummy is about to bust when SWIM drinks either gin & tonic or beer. SWIM cannot tolerate the taste and smell of beer, regardless of sweetness, bitterness or even brand. SWIM can only drink proper cocktails(exception of graveyards because of the stout element), all kinds of scotch/whiskey and even absinthe.
SWIM has been told he is not really allergic to anything and if SWIM can drink that much on a daily basis; SWIM is just a snob who is too pretencious to be seen drinking as something as cheap as beer. SWIM disagrees; SWIM in fact doesn't mind drinking crap vodka from dodgy distilleries so long as there are enough coke/orange/green tea mixers. Does anyone here know someone who has similar allergies or weird reactions from certain types of alcohol per se? Thanks

Re: Allergy/nausea from only specific types of alcohol?
Vodka used to make Swim sick. Even good vodka, and even when stone cold sober. He once vomited after a single shot.
This seems to have gone away in recent years, however. He's now able to enjoy a mixed drink with vodka in it. It still sometimes gives him a headache, however. He doesn't know why. It seems to contradict what he knows about ethanol, but there it is. ![]() ECL |
