Dealing with Cravings

How do you guys deal with cravings (we all know we get them from time to time). For SWIM, it usually starts about 4-5 weeks after not having done any. SWIM ends up getting really irritated at the people around SWIM and can't think about anything but getting high - yes, SWIM realizes that's a sign of addiction. So is there anything that you guys do to distract yourself or make yourself feel better when you can't get any dope?

Re: Dealing with Cravings

SWIM cravings are extreme on the come-down after having a day of meth, but not that extreme at times such as now where he hasn't done any in about a couple days. Perhaps it's because SWIM plans on doing meth sometime this week on the day he's off from work, so just having a time "planned" makes the cravings subside.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

^^^ That's probably what's mostly influencing SWIM's cravings - the fact that SWIM doesn't have a "planned" time to smoke dope. For SWIM, dope comes around sporadically, and SWIM never knows when dope's going to be around: it could be tomorrow, or it could be a month or two from now. This is really frustrating.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

Swim is going to respond to the waiting for the dope to come at a set time. Geez that would make swim more anxious and cravings worse. I don't know a lot of swimmers that can get speed on a set schedule. It is usually hit or miss. Another reason yet for swim to stop the insanity. But if swiy is staying insane in the membrane, oh it usually helped swim to stay active and not think of speed. If swiy does, the cravings will be unbearable. The way swiy has to think is ok it may or may not happen tomorrow, whatever, and go on with whatever swiy does. Staring at a phone that won't ring for example won't help, get out of the house and do something. Swim knows swiy is staring at that phone. Stop it! Just playing, no stay active, get out, shop, oh rent movies, do a puzzle, paint, that sort of thing. Just get it off the mind or swiy will go bonkers.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

Sleep. SWIM barely has a life off speed anymore because he's sleeping to avoid withdrawl and cravings when he doesn't have any. or take some ephedrine. It wont take away your concous desire to get high but it'll fill in the blanks in your head and give a mild energetic sensation.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

Well when one has to work, sleeping all the time isn't a choice. Although yeah if one is jobless, then that would work. Ephedrine does take some cravings away, agreed there and does give energy since lethargy is also an issue with comedown.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

Getting out and doing something, goin to the gym, ...amusement park for adrenaline rushes....if not those, watching movies, comedies worked best for swim.....other than that, drinking lots of water, taking vitamin supplements, there are some good herbal goodies that help with energy levels.

God swim too a big pile that never ends. OH that is bad, shouldn't have said that.

Honestly for the other question, just a good mulivitamin and B12. Also suggested in another thread slimfast or ensure, lots of good stuff in it. Camomile tea without caffine is good with honey. Lots of water and juice that is not sugary. Cravings are psychological and the best way to handle them is get outpatient therapy or someone to call when it hits hard so swiy won't use. Being alone is not good, need to have people around swiy. Also stay busy, that will help get your mind off the stuff. Long term solution, don't know that one yet. But if swiy can get thru a month, he should feel better but not cured. Also just thought healthfood places carry detox stuff, that may be worth a try.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

swims been fighting the cravings for about 2 1/2 years now. remembering the past is still a problem. the dreams have subsided, but it's still so hard to fight the urge. herbal healing used to help, but swim has stopped that as well. why is it that when swim is having a hard time with cravings and memories, swim turns on the t.v. and there's a show on about some shooting up? and why is it that swims stomach still automatically turns upside down, and swim feels sick? how long will these feelings of nausia last? hopefully not forever...

SWIM used to stare at the phone while SWIM was doing one of those things. Swim would put his phone next to the thing he was doing and would still stare at it. Swims painting projects never really came out right because of that.

Re: Dealing with Cravings

in swims view theres a few different ways to beat down the cravings.
1. form new habit or get serious about that hobby swiy is still attached to even tho swiy hasnt done it in like 4 yrs. swim found that heavy drinking usually does the trick.
2. evil buddy system. like the buddy system but evil. meaning swiy and a friend quit together. the kidding around honeymoon part lasts a few weeks until swiy starts to resent and hate their friend. swim became so afraid to talk to his friends about doing shit that swim isolated himself and had less problems staying clean.
3. understand some swimmers arent ready to hop out of the pool yet. relapse fucking happens the key swim thinks is to always decrease. will power tho.
4. enforced sobriety. like by the courts, partner, parents or whomever.
