Propaganda Irish Daily Mail blames suicide-murder on drugs

SWIS does not have the article to hand and would not waste any money on such a right wing rag, but apparently, they and they alone are reporting that this tragic story was down to drugs.

For those who are unaware of the story, three people were found dead in a remote farmhouse in Grangecon, County Wicklow. Two elderly parents in their mid eighties and their 43 year old son. All three had shotgun wounds and two guns were found in the farmhouse. The police are not looking for anyone else and believe this to be a case of murder-suicide.

Now SWIS could understand what went on here to a certain extent. It happens all over Ireland where the one unmarried member of a family is left (expected, almost forced into in some cases) to look after his/her elderly parents. SWIS has some experience of this. This is not a problem for some, but for others it can be a huge strain and they end up having absolutely no life of their own and suffering from depression and feelings of intense bitterness.

However, the Irish Daily Mail somehow believe that this is all down to an argument over drugs. Apparantly, the son was in trouble with the guards the previous week for a drugs offence. OK, but they then go on to say that it was an argument over this that spiralled out of control that led to the tragedy. How on earth did they arrive at that conclusion? The last time anyone saw any of them alive was the son on the Saturday morning. No alarm was raised until they were missed from being at church on the Sunday. So did the mail have secret micrphones installed in the farmhouse? SWIS thinks not. Pure speculation and of the worst possible kind. Let's try and sell more copy and make a statement in the process. This is sick journalism.

They were church goers! That explains it! That kind of thing quickly spirals out of control. Christians are always killing people. just look at Iraq and Afghanistan.

More likely a large slice of middle-England conservatism, where pigeon-holes are regularly stuffed with scapegoats. The editors of The Daily Mail would still be advocating the burning of witches at the stake if they thought it could possibly happen. "They're not like us, they must be done".

Sensationalistic stuff from The Mail again indeed. Is there anymore information on how drugs are actually tied into this? They might begin suggesting he was out of his mind on something because that's usually what the right-wing tabloids tend to go for. Wonder what they'll go for this time.

No, SWIS heard that on the radio, but despite his curiosity, he could not bring himself to buy that particular rag. All that was said on the radio was that they seemed to be hinting at an argument over some incident involving the son, the gardai and drugs. The papers today are speculating that it was because his mother disapproved of several of his ex-girlfriends. Dear god, what next.....they hire some sort of spiritualist who communes with the dead and they get an exclusive? All pure conjecture.
