Just uploaded an interesting study into the archives: An extended nondrug MDMA-like state evoked through posthypnotic suggestion. They were able to make people who had rolled before feel like they were doing so again through hypnosis. Perhaps labmonkey will have to start getting into hypnosis with a freind to evoke those good old feelings.
Let's let our minds wander in a flight of fancy over the implications... It would be interesting to test the various types of experiences this could replicate and to what degree. Could one trip like on acid for an hour with a hypnotically programmed safe word to stop the trip immediately if things go bad (or an unexpected guest stops by)? Very interesting research with interesting implications both recreationally (legal alternative... if one has already had experiences) as well as, per the speculation of the study, theraputic value. hmmmm.... h.a. Re: Hypnosis to get high
I wrote this in another thread ages ago....
SWIM would like to be hypnotised so that every time she heard dance music she would feel like she was on ecstasy, and every time her alarm clock went off she would feel like she had just smoked a big bowl of meth.... well if it really does work, why not? Hell it would save SWIM a lot of money and life would be much less complicated!! |

Re: Hypnosis to get high
I just read through it and noticed something I didn't when skimming over before: it refers to similar tests done in the past in which someone took acid, was hypnotized and told not to be effected by it and that worked. Three weeks later she was hypnotized and told to experience the LSD experience again and did so, even her pupils dilated! Crazy! I wonder what is possible with this.
(that alarm clock meth idea is brilliant, perhaps monkey could finally face the dreaded early morning )

Re: Hypnosis to get high
hypnosis has been proven to be able to cure alergys also.
i wonder if over time one could be reprogramed to feel totally new highs, like start with mdma then program them to feel mdma and lsd, then even more drugs, one could have the experiance of a life time anytime they wanted.maybe even program yourself to start tripping whenever you tap your pinky knuckle 3 times against your nose or something. |

Re: Hypnosis to get high
Yeah, this is one of the coolest things I've come across in a while. The possibilities are endless. Plus you could go out in a totally drug like state to fun places like the beach, wandering through the city, etc and be able to sober up instantly if needed and not worry about getting busted or such. If it works really well than you wouldn't even have to worry about getting shitty quality product from sketchy dealers and shit like that. Just have one good experience with quality product and you're sitting around bored--" hey I think I'll feel like I've just taken a good mdma tab and smoked a nice bowl and go for a swim..." This is going to have to be one of labmonkeys new main focal points for experimentation, muahahaha!

Re: Hypnosis to get high
First we'll just have to build a time machine to take us to various times when certain drugs were available but still legal, of course. I'll have to start rereading Hawkins

Re: Hypnosis to get high
Mind Games: The Guide to Inner Space by Robert Masters and jean Houston is a fun self-hypnosis voyage. In fact, it was the inspiration to John Lennon's song "Mind Games."
It's a lot of fun! |

Re: Hypnosis to get high
I've been to some very, very crazy places inside my own head that I've as of yet never been able to recreate with any substance. Furthermore, I've been able to induce euphoria for 10-15 seconds at a time (before I knew what [legal of course] drug-induced euphoria was like) by just willing myself to do so over a few minutes' time. I was able to do this while alone, just lying in bed. I haven't tried to do this since I began using substances. I guess I'll have to give it a try again... it was absolutely breathtaking at times.
I must admit however that I've almost been afraid to try it again, for the fear of failing. I forced myself into these states of mind to see what altered states of mind are like, but now that I have experienced [legal of course] altered states of mind, I'm afraid that I wont have the driving willpower to force the experience to happen like I did before, because I now know firstahand of many sure ways where altered states of mind can be induced using substances. I guess one would call this meditation, but I've never researched the topic specifically. |

Re: Hypnosis to get high
I have been able to use mental tricks resembling a sort of focused adoration and enthusiasm (much like bakti yoga without the god, since I'm not religious) to drive myself into some fairly breathtaking vistas of ecstasy. But nothing like the hypnotically induced LSD experience mentioned in the study!

Re: Hypnosis to get high
This is very interesting. I'm always a bit of a skeptic but i suppose if certain things can trigger flashbacks to strong psychedelic experiences, then why can't hypnotism.

Re: Hypnosis to get high
Does anyone have experience with self hypnosis? Labmonkey want to give this a try but he doesn't know anything about self-hypnosis and is weary of wasting time and money on pop psych books that won't deliver. Can anyone recommend a book on learning it or something?

IT wouldn't make life less complicated if you had a job and if people knew about this and would just stay around you with boomboxes playing dance music all the time . |

Re: Hypnosis to get high
I have an immense interest in hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) which has lately fallen to the wayside. My recent focus has come onto mind altering substances rather than mind altering thoughts, but self-hypnosis comes pretty easily. Deep trances to evoke strong feelings and sensations though often take a professional and a long history of work to create. I guess working with oneself though one has a lifetime to practice and with a tape recorder and a book or two (I recommend "Monsters and Magical Sticks") you would have all the equipment necessary to start with.

Re: Hypnosis to get high
Different breathing techniques can bring about drug like states. It's called, Holotropic Breathwork.
