My Salvia Divinorum Plants
In my semi-tropical moderate climate country, salvia plants are as legal as roses.
Starting from cuttings, about a month or two ago, my two plants have reached height of about 1 and a half metre!!! It was really a surprise for me, but i do see about half of the leaves having holes in them. I leave the plants outside, and they seem to be doing well in direct contact with the sun for a few hours a day and in temperatures of about 15-40 degrees during the day and night. Of course, i give them a lot of water, about a litre each daily. However, at least 1/3 or maybe half of each plant's leaves have holes in them. I cant figure out if it is insects that are causing these holes, or the leaves grow that way themselves, possibly because of the heat. I ve checked the plants and no insects appear on the leaves or anywhere else on the plants. I did see a couple of small flies a few times when i approached the plants, but i cant see how these flies could have caused the holes. Do they eat the leaves?! And lastly, i would like to ask when should i start harvesting, i did pick up a few leaves that went yellow and fell down, although i suspect a lot more of them have been swept away by the wind, but i have the impression it is really doing the plants good to be outside, and thus i dont bring them indoors, to get all falling leaves.. I ve read about salvinorin being effective only after 6 months or a whole year, but as i said its now 1-2 months and my plants are almost as tall as i am, with many leaves as large as half of my palm! What should i do?? |

Re: My Salvia Plants
harvesting leaves can be done anytime. (MIF says he doesn't notice any difference between the potency of young and old leaves) when MIF bought his plant, the care sheet that came with it said :
"As far as leaf collection, simply pinch off leaves that are beginning to turn yellow, wilting, have brown tips, etc. You can trim off ALL the leaves and new ones will grow back, but this inhibits growth and vigor. After you have cloned several plants, and have a nice garden of Sage, you will have plenty of leaves to trim off; wilting, browning, yellowing leaves are about as good as any green ones you may pick as far as phytochemical properties (other than chlorophyll, lol.)." as far as the holes, i am not really sure... |

Re: My Salvia Plants
As regards harvesting, I suggest you read this post on this other forum:
Please don't post links to other forums! Pinching the apical meristem is also advisable to promote lateral growth and increase leaf production. Perhaps it is time to start make some cuttings. As for the holes in the leaves, this is pretty normal up to a certain extent. If you look at pictures of Salvia Divinorum growing wild in Oaxaca mountains you can see how leaves have holes there too. If you don't want such holes, try spraying something that keeps insects away. I suggest stinging nettle extract which is cheap and safe if you plan to "use" the leaves. Re: My Salvia Plants
Swim supposes he had a post in another forum. Too bad. So sad.
Swim was both supprised, and jealous at first when he read how fast visitors plants were growing. Swim's are just not growing that fast. Swim wanted to know the secret

Now, i really dont want you to think like that, i always want to know the truth, not what is compatible to any "feelings" i have about anything.. Quote:
http://www.drugs-forum.com/photopost.../size/big/cat/ Well i think i see some similarities between the Visitor's plants and the plants in the above picture. DO YOU THINK i will know for CERTAIN once some flowering occurs??? As for trying them, the Visitor tells me he already tried them several times and at some points thought he was geting better feelings than the 20x commercial salvia extract he has bought some time ago! Re: My Salvia Plants
these fore sure aren't divinorums nor another type of Salvia. Salvias have opposite leaves in pair, squared stem and distinctive coloured flowers.
Don't try to "use" these, they might be toxic or poisonous. |

Re: My Salvia Plants
there is a really easy way way to identify whether or not it is salvia: if it doesnt have a square stem its not salvia divinorum...
despite this, if you are still unsure, post the pics up on Edot forums (i cant post a direct link, but the forum can be easily found through google) if it is salvia, someone will ID it....(i would also recommend getting clearer pics.) Last edited by jux; 22-07-2007 at 00:46. |

A square stem?! Like with angles? What do you mean. Alright, it was a good joke and all, now i m gona get serious about it. I will give it a chance that the kratom seeds were real, and ALTHOUGH the Visitor did exactly what the seller recommended, only pigweed accidentally grew. BUT, if i get convinced that the salvia CUTTINGS the Visitor bought ALONG with the seeds were of another species and not of salvia divinorum, then this summer is spent on messing up that seller's reputation in the entire internet.. i got a lot of time... and you, you are mine.... ![]() No one does that to me and gets away unharmed, although its a thousand miels away I have a deal after all, with the Space Visitor, to send me to a very nice dimension in the after life, pulling some strings, but i have to get results in helping him in his research, i m not gona lose my next life in the universal realms of light, for some fcuking con sellers of the net... ![]() They re going down

Re: My Salvia Plants
yes the stem is not round, it is square...each side is flat and there are four corners...it is not exactly a subtle trait, its definately something you would notice right way if you were to cut a branch off of salvia divinorum and looked at the area you just cut, you will notice the stem is not only square but also hollow...basically, a cross-section of the stem looks like a square with an empty circle in the middle...its actually pretty cool Last edited by jux; 22-07-2007 at 01:48. |

Dont worry, i get it, but we re talking about plants here, well when i touch the stem its not completely round, it has a bit of an angle here and there, but saying squared, what could you possibly mean, the precision of a geometrical shape?! |

Re: My Salvia Plants
there is no roundness to the stems on salvia...it is a square...not round...not round with a few of corners here and there...flat sides and four corners
younger branches are perfect squares...on older sections of the stem, the flat sides begin to sink inwards giving making the 4 corners prominent anyways it's something that is blatently obvious when you look at the plant...its not something you really have to look for.... Re: My Salvia Plants
Swim thinks that might not be salvia divinorum. It may well be another salvia just not divinorum. The leaves and stalk don't look right. Where did the visitor get these "salvia divioum" plants from? Swim hopes he didn't pay too much.
From reading other sources of info swim knows that not all salvia plants have been formally tested for salvinorin and that some other salvia plants might show some pschyoactive properties of some sort when smoked but swim is pretty sure that thoes plants in the pictures are prob not going to do it for you. |
