percocet withdrawal

swim has been taking about 130 mgs, give or take, of percocet a day for a few months now. swims been tryin to get off them recently so for the last week swims been weaning it down to 50mgs, and the last day or 2 20 mgs, plus swim has a prescription off klonopin to help with the anxiety. how nasty of an experience is swim in for when swim is off of them completely when it comes to physical withdrawal?

Re: percocet withdrawal

Well if swiy's tapers down for awhile and has the klonopin(clonazepam)or some other benzodiazepine when swim is totally off percocet then this won't be that rough of a ride.Even without any help swiy's experience would be a good deal less harsh than that of someone who had been on opiates, especially harder opiates for a long period of time.

Re: percocet withdrawal

Decreasing the dose can definitely help quite a bit. If SWItone has a trusted doctor the best thing to do may be to be honest. Since the habit has been for only a few months, they will most likely prescribe clonidine, a blood pressure medication the eliminates most of the physical withdrawal discomforts, that used along with the clonazepam for 5 or so days would get SWItone through the withdrawals. The clonazepam would then be used for 5-10 days after that for anxiety. I do not recommend any opiod acting drugs if SWItone is serious about quitting.

Re: percocet withdrawal

When swim went to his doctor for withdrawals he didn't get clonidine. He got tranxene(clorazepate)not the most common benzo but hopefully swiy's doctor may consider this.It is a very long acting benzo. This is what makes it so effective for treating withdrawals.Taking one is not going to give you six hours of relief, for swim just one gave him about 12 hours or more of relief to an extent.Very effective medication.

There is however some drawbacks in being honest with ones doctor. If swiy's doctor learns you have had a problem with substance dependency he will be very reluctant in the future to prescribe anything truly effective that also has some enjoyable effects for sleeping, anxiety and the like.On the rare occassions he does if at all he will give swiy a very small supply.Looking back on things swim should have just told his doctor he was having severe anxiety and panic attacks and was unable to sleep.Swim wouldn't have been lying technically as all of those symptoms were present in the state of opiate withdrawal. So if one is honest with their doctor about going through opiate withdrawal in the future getting any benzodiazepines or effective sleeping medications like ambien(zolpiderm)will be very difficult and getting any opiate will be next to impossible. And even if swim does manage he won't get a large enough supply for it to be any prize. Not that swim is talking about actually lying to his doctor to get these things,he wouldn't do that he means simply getting them for legitamite reasons though getting his favorite things on earth and in a decent amount is always a nice bonus.
