Well, əŭëíæ has been having terrible sleeps for no reason really, melatonin wasn't working, didn't want to pop seroquel nightly, or pull out the bottle of xanax.. and was searching for something different.
CHAMOMILE! 8 x 1300mg of Traditional Medicinal organic chamomile flower tea was steeped in hot water for 10 minutes, pressed around with a spoon to make the tea darker and it was drunk. The taste was not terrible with sugar and was downed rather easily. 15 minutes later, əŭëíæ is feeling a little bit heavy, slower, and calm, not unlike 0.5 -1mg (or more now) of xanax. əŭëíæ feels this is a more natural feeling than xanax and would provide a deeper sleep. Actually əŭëíæ thinks it's more like temazepam now. Still different, though. Vision is blurred slightly and slurry at a distance. əŭëíæ wants to get more sedated next time, and plans on putting the equivalent amount in capsules to get the full effect. Then he will increase from there. The effect continues to increase and əŭëíæ thinks he will get a great sleep, no more staring at the ceiling for 3 hours! I will report back with the quality of əŭëíæ's sleep tomorrow, and he says "goodnight!" |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Did swiy get any of the euphoria xanax(alprazolam)offers from this?Would this work for swim? One odd thing about swim is his high tolerance for opiates for some reason seems to have effected his tolerance to benzodiazepines and other downers.Swim rarely does benzodiazepines yet after developing a high opiate tolerance it takes much more benzodiazepines to give swim the effects they gave him before he started heavily using opiates. So would this have any effect on chamomiles sedative properties?

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
It may... I don't think anyone could answer that for sure though. One thing is for sure, əŭëíæ feels wonderful and is having a hard time keeping his neck upright, he keeps nodding off and the head keeps dropping backwords.
At higher doses I can imagine that əŭëíæ would get some euphoria, but the same goes for xanax... but there must be a better word for "euphoria" when talking about benzos, maybe "carefree" or "sense of well-being". bed time for real, əŭëíæ and i are soooo tired. |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Swim has this teat hat he asked about on another post here which contains chamomile. He doesn't think it contains alot because on the box the main substance they talk about is eluthero, which is Siberian Ginseng. So would swim need to consume a pretty heavy amount of this for it to have any real effect?
There is also a few different kinds of chamomile apparently http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/c/chammo49.html Does swiy know what kind it was he used? Most of them have sedative and anxiolytic properties but some have some properties the others don't.Would swiy please try to find out exactly what chamomile he used so swim can try it.If swim is satisfied he may try and grow some chamomile. Not sure it would work that well because swim is doing a little research now.It says chamomile does well in places where it does not exceed 100 degrees F.It gets VERY hot where swim lives, couldn't hurt to try though. |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
I think ginseng is toxic at higher doses so swiOS might not want to do that, but anyway it just says "organic chamomile flower" on the box.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Yes swim has heard ginseng is hepatoxic at really high doses.Swim really doesn't know how Siberian ginseng differs from regular ginseng but back on topic.Swim is definitely going to be doing abit of experimentation with chamomile in the days to come.Something more sedating than a benzodiazepine and easily available over the counter? That is a wonderful discovery.
Swim has one more question though, does chamomile perhaps have the painkilling abilities xanax(alprazolam)has for swim? |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Possibly the lessened sense of what the body is feeling, in a xanax way... əŭëíæ also had an incredible, deep, sleep... while in bed the eyes began to water and əŭëíæ fell asleep after 5 minutes vs. 3 hours. Hard to wake up!

Does that mean əŭëíæ had some kind of hangover or was still too sedated in the morning?

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Swim is going to go to the store tomorrow and buy some chamomile tea.Swim thinks they may make it in pill form already and swim may pick up some of those. If this is really as good as xanax(alprazolam)this will be a brilliant discovery.

Labmonkey and I are also going to have to get some tea. A couple of insomniacs we are and we're getting sick of munching sleepy tabs every night. Thanks for the rec.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Swim discovered awhile back that xanax(alprazolam)is synergistic with chamomile by drinking that tea he has that has chamomile as an ingredient in with 1 mg of xanax. This could have been some of the other ingredients in the tea to helping.Swim knows catmint is mildly sedating and cannabis like. This is also in the same tea.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
The morning after əŭëíæ woke up with a head/neck ache, whether this was some sort of withdrawl from the chamomile, or the chamomile made əŭëíæ not move out of an awkward sleeping position when normally he would have, is to be determined.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Swim is definitely going to have to make a comparison between pure chamomile tea and the tea with chamomile in it.Perhaps use one one night and another the night after. It will also be useful to find out which one is more synergistic with or potentates alprazolam more. After determining this swim is going to try the same experiment with low doses of any other benzodiazepines he gets his hands on.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Kidding? I've seen many monkeys drinkings lots of chamomille tea i.e. several litres when suffering from a cold. And 10g doesn't seem such a high dose. But maybe the monkeys forgot to weigh before preparing the tea. More info encouraged. That sounds just too great to be true.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
SWIM had read somewhere online that peppermint tea had weak musculoskeletal relaxant properties. Whether it was a reliable source or not I dunno, but since he had a cupboard full of various herbal teas anyway, he decided to brew a tea with a few bags of chamomile, and a few bags of peppermint in a nice big mug. The teabags were left in while it was consumed as well. It tasted quite nice.
SWIM has no experience with xanax so he can't compare, or contribute much of use to this conversation, but nevertheless would like to report that the result was a very mellow relaxing evening. He will certainly repeat the experiment again, maybe upping the teabag count a bit. SWIM's totally aware how much placebo effect there could have been in his experience, but even if that's the case...well he got an experience at least ![]() Keep us posted on SWIY's chamomile experiences. Its an interesting one. Akki |

SWIM made an extraction of 10 tea bags using rubbing alcohol. The resulting mass was smoked to some relaxing effect. Got about two good hits from it.

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
Swim is starting to notice that if he drinks alot of chamomile at night he finds it hard to wake up in the morning. This is not a good thing because swim has to get up early every morning. On the other hand swim has lots of sleep issues and he knows taking diphenhydramine every night would cause much worse problems.Swim didn't think chamomile hangover was possible but one learns something new everyday.

Seeing as im sure chamomile is not prohibited anywhere YET... ill skip the swiming for now.Ive been awake and unable to sleep for more then a few days its to the point where things are getting anoying like hearing faint music in anything that hums, refrigerators, computer fans ETC. this is not drug induced im just a weirdo who cant sleep for long periods sometimes,5.6 grams of pure chamomile is brewing right now.Chamomile grows everywhere, esp along the sides of roads its not hard to find and extracts will be made this summer for testing but for now store bought tea bags will be used in place of fresh flower tops which have the higest potency, sadly store bought tea is generally very old and has lost some/most of its nice powers. 1:25 steeping. 1:33 Done. 1:37drinking the tea 1:52 done drinking the tea 1:55 felling a bit more tired, not sure if this is from lack of sleep, the chamomile or the fact ive already seen every porn the internet has to offer. 2:18 feeling a bit relaxed, will post more tommorow on how this went. |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
when the monkey's tolerance goes up (
) one can also alternate chamomille ( Chamaemelum nobile) with lime blossom ( Tilia cordata Mil) tea, another grandma classic, or vervain ( Verbena officinalis L.), and passionflower ( Passiflora incarnata)not to forget hops / hop cones, valerian, , wild marjoram, hawthorn, lemon balm, california poppy ( eschscholtzia californica), lavender... all classic nightcaps... lime blossom, passionflower chamomille and vervain really "rock" though... b |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
name question most probably. it's known by another vernacular name in non-UK english apparently, "linden tree", like in german, but "large leaved lime" seems to be the standard british name.
the tea from this tree's blossoms is most common in quite a few western european countries at least, available in any supermarket next to the chamomille and vervain in the tea section, teabaged and all. name's "tilleul" in french, "linden" in german, "tiglio" in italian, "tilo" in spanish and the drink "tila", for instance there's a wikipedia entry under Tilia_platyphyllos, saying it's used interchangeably with Tilia cordata b Last edited by Benga; 15-04-2008 at 19:58. |

Re: Chamomile! ...better than alprazolam(xanax)? !
I'm going to try this out. I've been reading up about herbs/plants that have anxiolytic and anti-depressant properties. I don't like having to depend on xanax. I should be getting Damiana soon (which is said to have those properties) and I'll make a tea out of it and smoke it at the same time and see what that does. I'll definitely try Chamomile out to see if it lives up to it's reputation.
